Where do I get information on what Coin/Note shows are happening around the world. Obviously I am more interested in shows in the UK as they are easier (and chepaer) to get to.

Also I recently returned from Vacation to Southern Africa, and I went to Zimbabwe while I was there. The currency has gone to pot in that part of the world now, that they have resorted to using bearer cheques instead of real notes. The OFFICIAL government exchange rate is Z$250 = USD1

I have attached a copy of the Z$1000 note which is about US$4.00. The wired thing about the money, is that they have a Z$1 note as well... cant buy much with that at allzim%20note.jpg

Chris,Zimbabwe has got Bearer Cheques as low as 1 Cent. The 1c. to 50c. values are on paper that was left over from when the $500 notes were printed at the end of 2001 (or 2003,according to an unconfirmed report). The $1 Bearer Cheque is significant,as it is the first time that Zimbabwe has ever had a $1 note.

I have got all of the new Zimbabwean Bearer Cheques, except for the $10,000 & $100,000 ones.I can guess that I will have to wait until next year's Pick catalogue comes out.The prices that some vendors on eBay want for these 3 notes (including the 2 types of the $10,000) is absolutely ridiculous.

Can you post a pic of the Ghana note? If I remember the last Popular Note Comp correctly, some Ghana notes did well.

Chris,I found trying to collect the world far too difficult, which is why I now specialise in the British Commonwealth, including Ireland,Zimbabwe,& Somaliland, but not Cameroon or Mozambique (which are foreign countries that should never have been allowed to join up in the first place).

You'll be pleased to know that from later on this year,England will be issuing a banknote depicting Adam Smith on it.Who would believe it - a Scotsman depicted on an English banknote.By the way, only 3 countries of the U.K. are issuing notes.Wales stopped issuing notes in around the mid 1970's.Scotland & Ulster are still issuing their own notes.Cornwall also had their own notes for a short time as well.

Just won two great banknotes on ebay. Portuguese 5000 reis 1901 P80 and 500 escudos 1922 P130. The 500 escudos type was involved in the (in)famous Angola and metropole fraud by Alves Reis. Here is the story about it: http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/21/burton.php

I really like the story about this Portugal note although it is a bit confusing when I first read it. I will put this into my website under the article with both the article and the link to the orginal article.

Is there any other good story relating to banknotes ? :ninja:

excellent notes! i especially like the reverse of that c-note. it's notes like these that are getting me to focus my collection a lot more to the u.s. side as opposed to the rest of world. i'm slowly crossing over...maybe temporarily, maybe not. ;)

as for display recommendations, i've been using fotki.com. i found it several years ago and liked it so much i decided to upgrade my free account to a paid one. it lets me show public photo galleries, password-protected galleries, and hidden private galleries. with unlimited account space, i loaded my entire collection to the public area and use my private area to host pictures for use other websites...like my avatar and signature bar. they also just added a new feature allowing for video.

another popular site i've seen in use is flickr. i've never used them, so i can't really comment on their features. but from what i've seen....it looks pretty snazzy! :ninja:

I guess some weekend when I have some spare time I'll look into those San Miguel. The $100 is the only FRN with a profile image of Franklin, and although these are still available, they are getting a bit harder to find without major problems (this one has one pinhole on the margin). And yes, the large size FRNs had some of the best designs the BEP has ever produced!

maybe it's his keyboard/computer. u.s. keyboards are defaulted to show the '$' symbol, korean pc's show the won,and japanese show the yen. makes sense that a british one shows the pound. ;)

to use a different symbol than the default, you'd have to look up the code, like alt + 0163. sometimes i get lazy and just write out 'pounds' or 'euro' rather than look up the code. :ninja:
