The nearest is to me is Bank of America and the minimum is $100 USD to currency nearest to that is orlando airport If you find yourself in Orlando, a couple of the malls there have foreign exchange booths in them: - Florida Mall - Mall at Millenia I've gotten stuff from both places before. Usually the very nice weekend girl at Florida Mall will take the time to search for better condition notes, if you ask. I have seen the 200 Bolívares Fuerte with a portrait of Gran Mariscal Antonio J. de Sucre the 500 Bolívares Fuerte, with a portrait of Rafael María Baralt. The subject of this 20 Bolivares note is Luisa Caceres de Arimendi, a heroine of the Venezuelan struggle for independence from Spanish rule early in the 19th century. At the young age of 16 and pregnant, she was imprisoned by the Spanish in an attempt to extract information on her husband, General Juan Bautista Arismendi, a freedom fighter and contemporary of Simon Bolivar. Despite her imprisonment, she never revealed whatever she knew about the freedom fighters, and was subsequently freed by the Spanish. She died in 1866. It's very pleasing overall, but there's something about the heads at top that it surreal to me and reminds me of a time in my distant past: My sisters teased me with those styrofoam heads used to display wigs. I had one sister that wore many types of wigs in the 1960's and early 1970's and my sisters would tease me by placing the heads in staggered formation or just one in the hall and say: "David! The heads are comming! They're gonna' get us - run!" ... ... of course being about 4/5 years old, it would freak me out. Siblings - gotta' love 'em! Scottishmoney Posted May 13, 2008 Report Share Posted May 13, 2008 One I have to admit was a very very fortunate eBay purchase, one I had not even watched, but happened upon one evening looking for bargains. This note is one I have wanted for awhile, it was the inspiration for other SE Asian notes that were issued later in Laos. It is one that is very difficult to find in nicer grade, ie above VF and usually when it is found it is in very heavily circulated condition. Many lovely young ladies appeared on the colonial French notes issued for her far flung possessions around the world, unfortunately early on, most of them were French. Later on, with greater agitation by nationalists in her colonies, France began to issue paper money that showed the people from her diverse possessions instead of French women. This lovely note was issued in 1954, was issued in Cambodia, the reverse of the note has an image of Angkor Wat, but similar notes with different reverses were issued in Laos and in Viet-Nam. The three ladies are emblematic of the ethnic diversity of French Indochina, in this case represented by a Cambodian, Laotian, and Vietnamese women. This note is P-97. BTW Dave, I am going to ask you not to post anymore African notes, I really have to like the colours and designs of them, they are so tempting, but would cause me to stray again from a hoarding theme. I have a fairly decent Thai collection going now, they have some of the best commems around. That's me brother. I was living the good life in Thailand, but moved to DC two years ago. A little while back, I won an all-expense paid 6-month trip to Afghanistan. That's where I am writing this from. Unfortunately, I did not bring my Thai note collection with me. Overall, it is solid from 1948 to date (missing three notes that I can recall), but I need to do some work on the late 30s and early 40s issues. My wife tells me I have all the 2007 commemoratives waiting for me when I get back home. If I can find some extra time, I'll try to do a giveaway of some new Afghan notes. The same with the other vignette on the other denomination, I think it was used on an Ecuadorian charter banknote, and also one from El Salvador. Many of the ABN company vignettes were used on several nations currencies, the reverse of the 5.000 Czechoslovakian from 1920 was also face on the 100 FF French specimen of 1918. You know, I came thisclose to posting that it reminded me of some South American notes! - - but I didn't want to sound stupid ... But I did a quick catalogue check and I noticed that there is even one that was issued to Ecuador in 1911 (P s157) that was used on a Cuban note I have from 1896 (P - 48). Then I got to thinking how cool it'd be to have a collection of allegorical ladies by type - Agriculture, Commerce, Industry, Mother Country, etc. It'd play havoc with my current method of collecting (like grasping at banknotes in a money filled chamber with a fan turned on), but I might have to consider it a bit more. hehe - now I'm thinking of grasping at coins in a chamber with a super-powerful fan ...
