  1. That 1910 peso is simply superb!!! I am extremely jealous!
  2. Very cool! The metal coins, are they hammer struck? If so, how many blows? I've only seen modern ones in silver, but I imagine harder metals like copper or brass might be a challenge. How do you make the planchets? I've seen some that are cut our of a band of metal which were thin, like some of yours appear to be. Very cool stuff!
  3. Well, the mailman actually brought me nothing at all today, but I did pick up these two at a local show:
  4. The conversion rate is 1-1 since one balboa has been pegged to $1 since at least the 1930s (in the early 20th century, a Balboa was almost $2). I have come across 1/4 balboas too, and actually thought about spending them in the pop machine at work! I believe they still have 1/10th, 1/4 and 1/2 Balboas that are the same as our coins, not sure about the nickel though. I think they are now using a small coin for 1 balboa, though it used to be identical in every respect to the silver dollar, 26.73 grams 0.900 fine silver!
  5. Panama still pegs to the dollar, so they are the same size. A friend of mine went to Panama 3 or 4 years ago and brought me back some half balboas and they are identical in size and composition to a Kennedy half (in fact they were produced by the US Mint until the early 1980s I believe).
  6. Great find on the IHC, unfortunately my 1909 was a Lincoln!
  7. this is the infamouse runny nose variety! just kidding, it's just a nice big bag mark, but what can I complain about, I paid less than 5% over melt!
  8. This arrived in the mail yesterday, a purchase from an NGC forum member:
  9. Nice gold certs! In the mail today I received the backing for that $20 note! Those FRBNs are way cool too!
  10. Stopped at the McDonald's drive through this morning for breakfast and got a 1909 wheatie in change!!!
  11. Not sure how much bribing would be going on with a silver coin as small as a 3-cent silver! I still have a bunch of Dutch 10-cent coins from a trip back in 1996, and they have got to be the smallest, most annoying coins ever minted by man!
  12. But they do have Coinstars in Canada and in the UK! http://ce.coinstarinc.ca/ce/html/a-home Coinstar is how the Canadian government is removing all the old nickel coinage from circulation to be sold as scrap!
  13. Those are series 1935 D silver certs.
  14. I got these at the coin club meeting on Tuesday night: Then I won this one in the raffle (not bad for $2 in tickets):
  15. I got these today from Blackhawk:
  16. Got some great silver certs today from Bill! THANKS!!!
  17. Well, it's been a while since I've made an update, so here are some coins I received in the last few weeks. This first one is a 1941 cent I bought from Doogy for a year set for my Dad: This next one is a German 2-euro commem for 2007 that I traded with Marvin: This next one is a pile of silver Mexican pesos I bought today at the coin show: And this last one is a French 100 Fr. Piedfort commemorating the Statue of Liberty centennial, contains almost an ounce of silver which I bought for melt at the show today.
  18. Today I went to the bank to get into my safe deposit box and the coin counting machine is right next to the boxes in the vault, so I spied what I though was silver in the plastic bag of halves, so I bought all $40 they had and landed me a nice toned 1964 Kennedy!
  19. Thanks guys! It seems like 1809 is becoming one of those dates that I can't resist when I see them! In my view it is certainly one of the underrated dates in the series, as 8 of the 23 Overton varieties are rated R-5, I just haven't found any of them yet!
  20. I picked this one up at a local show yesterday:
  21. I never said it was a quick undertaking! On the first book I have 29 out of 48 and on the second book I have 19 out of 48, needless to say the real expensive ones are still empty holes!
  22. Got some barber halves and a really nice mercury dime from Bill today, they are great! Thanks Bill!
  23. I just got these two in the mail today. The first is a nice Morgan I needed for my AU/BU set in a Dansco that I bought from a member of the NGC forum: This second one was a nice merc I bought from Blackhawk, I mainly got it because it is my Dad's birth year.
  24. Here is a link on this note at the BEP site: Bureau of Engraving and Printing Website - $100,000 Gold Certificate I would note the last sentence on the page, "This note cannot be legally held by currency note collectors." There is also one in the Smithsonian: Smithsonian $100,000 Note. Apparently it was a gift from the treasury in 1978. I also saw an uncut sheet of these notes at the BEP's traveling exhibit at the Portland ANA in 2004. As I recall, the sheet did not have printed serial numbers and was overlaid with "Specimen" over the notes. In short, if your relative or friend or you actually have a real one of these notes, expect a knock on the door as the secret service will be interested in talking to you.
