  1. Got a couple more cool coins, thanks Bill!
  2. I picked these two up last week and they arrived today! My first two large size nationals.
  3. Here are the rest, I guess I ran into the image posting limit!
  4. Well, I was busy last week so I didn't have time to post all of these that I received from Marvin in a trade:
  5. I got this one last Thursday:
  6. I got this in the mail on Monday, no holograms, security threads, polymers or color shifting ink, just 22 square inches of beautiful intaglio printing on cotton-linen fiber...
  7. Excellent bust half and nice die clash! I believe my 1830 had a similar die clash, though not as prounounced as yours.
  8. What's the story on the Franc? I got one in circulation in France in 1995 and I saved it, but I could never figure out if it was a commem or a design change (there were several 2-franc commems circulating at the time). In any case I really liked the design so I saved it (a solid 20-cent investment!).
  9. The mailman was good to me this weekend! First I received a nice 1952-D quarter on Friday that I bought from a guy on the NGC forums: Then yesterday I got my prize from Blackhawk for the Wright Brothers contest: Finally, this one didn't come in the US mail, but ironically came in the interoffice mail at work! It's a medal commemorating the first trading of the NYSE after their merger with Archipelago. It's about the size of a silver dollar, not sure of the composition, but I thought it was neat anyway.
  10. Very cool, I love those 8-reales!
  11. Vfox, I am sure Marvin will be happy to trade German coins with those crazy eagles for American coins on his want list (and it's a pretty long want list!). I don't know what it is, but these German coins are starting to grow on me a little!
  12. I have been buying a roll of unc silver eagles and one proof silver eagle every year since 1990. I went back and bought a roll of 1987s and 1989, so I still need to get a roll from 1986 and 1988. For the proofs, I went back and bought the 1986-89 back in 2000, and based on the prices then you got a heck of a deal on the 1988. Back then the price for the 88 was about $90, but I thought I got a deal at only $60. Apparently that date has lost favor over the last few years. I think what you are doing is not crazy in the least. Although I collect only raw ASEs (I do have one MS-68 that I got as a gift from NGC), collecting slabbed coins in this series doesn't strike me as insane like other series where there is a huge jump in price between 69 and 70 grades. Still, on the slabbed ones, I would advise buying the highest grade possible before the big price jump. So if a PR-69 is say $60 and a PR-70 is $200, go with the PR-69. If another date the PR-69 is $75 and the PR-70 is $100 then you may as well get the PR-70. Otherwise I wish you well and many fun times with your boys!
  13. Thanks Jim, I appreciate the confirmation!
  14. I received the last of my trades from Marvin yesterday:
  15. Well Marvin, I was going to wait till the last ones arrive, but since you're so impatient here they are!
  16. The mailman was good to me last week! This first one I got in a trade with Vfox (so it's mine as long as he likes the Mexican coins I sent him!). I believe it's an O-102 or O-102a, but I am having a hard time with some of the details to attribute it with certainty. This next one just arrived today for my type set, and no it does not have an S mintmark on the reverse! These small coins are really hard to photograph in NGC slabs! And this one is just another hole filler in my set, so I figured I'd pick it up while prices are down!
  17. Yesterday I got an unc. 1984-D quarter that quickly upgraded my former specimen in the whitman.
  18. Naw, I'm just a sucker for shiny things! I guess I better not tell you what I won on eBay tonight!
  19. Well, it wasn't really the mail man, but today the Fedex man brought me these two from Doogy:
  20. I hadn't heard about the two versions, mine is the one that covers 1905-08, the only other version I've heard of was one that covered the minor denomination coins of the teens, but I am not sure that's out yet. Roger Burdette is a member of the NGC forums (RWB is his ID) and I just PM'ed him and he told me how to order it. Many fascinating things, unfortunately I have so little time and about 12 books on my reading list for the summer! I did a google search and found this info: Renaissance of American Coinage 1905-1908 is the second of three books exploring the coinage redesign of 1907-1921. A companion volume covering the 1916-1921 period (ISBN 0-9768986-0-8, available from the publisher.) was released in October 2005, and a third volume covering 1909-1915 is planned for release in 2007. The book is available direct from Seneca Mill Press LLC, PO Box 1423, Great Falls VA 22066 for $64.95 plus $4.50 postage If you would like a signed copy, just contact Roger through the NGC board and you can request one that is personalized or just signed at no extra cost (you can also just include a note requesting it be signed when you mail in your order).
  21. Yesterday I received my signed copy of Roger Burdette's "Renaissance of American Coinage." I've only breezed through the pictures so far but this book seems like a fantastic work!
  22. If it has a green seal, it is most likely a worn series 1988 (small size $1 FRNs weren't issued until the 1960s). Yesterday I got a 1940 nickel and a 1959-D cent at lunch.
  23. Yesterday I got a 1945 wheatie, no idea where though, it was just in my pocket at the end of the day when I emptied my change.
