  1. Couldn't get the reverse to display in the same post. Must be something I'm doing that doesn't work in the new format. 1974S 5C PF68UC rev by UGotaHaveArt, on Flickr
  2. Here's a proof Jefferson from my collection. This coin has a fantastic overall golden tone to it. Really a beautiful coin. 1974S 5C PF68UC obv by UGotaHaveArt, on Flickr
  3. Thanks for the photo info. I really like the results very much. Your medals are wonderful in and of themselves but the presentation greatly enhances my viewing pleasure. Again thanks for both the info and the images.
  4. Sorry if this has been asked and answered already. Can you tell us about your photo setup and the processing that you do that results in the side-by-side images with reflections and that wonderful background?
  5. Very nice examples. This is a rather fascinating area of numismatics. Enjoy it.
  6. It is difficult. Proofs are way harder to capture than MS and circulated coins. Toning -- I have not idea how folks get the wonderful color renditions that they do. BUT I too am trying to learn.
  7. Nice ten spot. I'll bet the $20 is rather difficult to find in beautiful condition.
  8. Great 43-D. Looks like a coin that served its purpose quite well.
  9. I just lost 8 ebay auctions for Jeffersons -- my snipes all came up short and interestingly I lost to other snipers in each case. That's a lot of snipers for fairly low priced common coins.
  10. Seeing the rims is important - sometimes and to some people - and NGC & PCGS both have new holders that allow that to a great extent. Here's an NGC with rim view. Here's one of the PCGS slabs that allows rim view.
  11. PF70 Ultra Cameo --- that's a great coin. I've mentioned before but can't hurt to be redundant - I think the NGC holders and the old ANACS holders - white background against the coin, are far visually much nicer than the PCGS and other "clear" holders.
  12. From looking at some British coins, is there a series that catches your fancy more than others. For example I collect everything but I pay particular attention to 6d and 3d pieces. I like the size of the coins and the designs. Others specialize in pennies or in hammered only or a particular monarchs coins. Lots of options. Let us know what you're leaning toward and maybe we can post some photos or such to help you along.
  13. V was stolen off of the desk of one of the project participants. He left the coin sitting on the desk and went out of the office for some period of time. Upon his return or some days later he noticed the coin was gone. A replacement coin "Libby" was moved into the project but has stalled at one of the members homes. She's having child health problems and so Libby is way way down on her priority list. Someday in the near future, I'm sure, Libby will rise and continue her journey.
  14. I find the new tablets to be tempting for this sort of thing. They're light weight and have plenty of power - at least that's what the specs/ads say. My son has a nice 10" andriod tablet. It's fast and the wifi connection is super on it. When he gets his new graphic laptop for school, I plan to borrow the tablet for a few weeks and play with a coin database and a few other things I'm interested in on it.
  15. Interesting. Thanks for the info. So it was currency control to prevent the influx of deflated currencies into their local economy.
  16. I'm glad that you like it. It is really quite a nice note. Enjoy.
  17. Do you know what conditions existed that allowed stamping of some notes? Was it a tax thing or a valid "papers" thing or ?
  18. These e-readers are going to make some serious changes for many of us. You can load catalogs and inventories and pictures and... I recently go a sample of an ebook on Jefferson and Buffalo Nickels - it's the red book for those series. It has great promise. I'm thinking that may be the way I go for future books such as the Red Book and others in that series.
  19. Interesting. So do I get it right that the overstamp made the note "legal" currency in the newly acquired area?
  20. Glad your quest is still alive. Can't wait to see some photos of what are surely really nice nickels.
