I thought about ordering the previous issues but decided that my collection is already far too broad in scope and I really need to narrow it and bring more definition/documentation to bear.

There was an interesting book about toning and such written a few years ago. As I recall the author had some discussion about these types of things. Ah well! The memory it fails me once again.

They are way too expensive for me as well. Of course with silver prices at their current levels that's not likely to change any time soon.

The PCGS slabs are available pretty readily on ebay. I usually get mine from one or two different companies but when they come out I purchase them as a set. Usually get the best deal on postage and such that way.

Here's a really nice Roosevelt Dime from a US Mint set. The Mint Set coins have a Satin Finish from ???? until 2009. Then they stopped and went back to the normal circulation coin finish. I think the satin finish is quite attractive but frankly I'm glad that they dropped it. So true. But the mirrored fields are also quite attractive in hand. The contrast between the mirror and the frosting is very pleasing to me.

Far more attractive in Deep Cameo Proof than MS states.

WOW! I haven't run into any of the Territories or NP quarters in change. I have one Wash DC that Frannie got in change quite a while ago. I wonder where the heck they are? You'd think there would be a big quarter turnover here. One of the bigger local newspaper groups processess all their news machine coins through two branches of their bank here, so we get a lot of quarter turnover. That's why the banks would never order the State Quarters from the Fed.

#3 is your best option. I always attempt to do #4 which is purchase a box or bag from the bank and attempt to spend those that I don't need. I admit it's more difficult with nickels than with halfs or dollars. Good hunting.

Chad, Jeffersons are a lot of fun. Great coins are pretty much available. Have fun with this set and keep us updated on your progress.
