  1. *cough* Are you sure Doc didn't get those coins you put in?
  2. The reverse is tempting me to etch some graffiti on it... afterall what's the point of a wide space there
  3. A crappy ruble: Most likely minted in 1793. Crappy but I didn't pay much for it.
  4. First you need a die, whatever it could be. Even a *cough* counterfeit will do. (img shown at bottom) <- Next you borrow that hammer off my avatar to strike planchets and volia! A nice "coin" there! Of course, the sickle is there for you to behead yourself if you are planning to counterfeit some coins --- Ok, leaving the joke part aside, I am sure there are a fair bit of sites that does give details of how coins / medals are made. Even the US mint do give a general idea of how coins are made. http://www.usmint.gov/faqs/circulating_coi...fm?action=coins
  5. Speaking of prices going insane - just within this post that only existed for a few months... here is another similar coin that's slamming around 900USD... I don't know what this will end up to... Link
  6. Banivechi just sent me a great Russian kopek even though I am sure he would be happy to keep it - I have to thank him for his great generocity!!! Also, he included some great Romanian coins that was issued very recently. He is just great!!!

There is a reason why these clips are ridiciously big!!!
  8. And here is mine today... worned but oh well, I bought it at a heavily battered price Geez, some Russian coins time?

  10. OMG NEW PRICE RECORD FOR ALEXANDRINE COLUMN RUBLE?!?!?! 4 grand?! http://cgi.ebay.com/Russia-Very-Rare-1834-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. Oh Miguel if I am not wrong, the Singapore bankote that starts with the serial 1 seems to be issued just last year 2004 or so if I am not wrong. Serial 0 was issued since 1999 and it is time to replace the old banknotes. Also note the hologram difference with serial 0 and serial 1 with the same banknote. I am quite sure there are some differences.
  12. My god Miguel, that sure is amazing. P.S. I think I can get higher denomination notes of Singapore if you wish. I got friends and relatives who live there I do have higher denomination of Australian banknotes as I live here - if you wish.
  13. Here is some of the list of Kookaburras: http://www.pandaamerica.com/subcategory.as...&categ=19&grp=1 It seems that recent years, the 10 ounce Kookaburras are completely off the theme of it, but it is still considered as part of the Kookaburra set... Also note that there are quite a few versions of such Kookaburras but they only vary at the Privy marks. Some might consider them fancy because it might depict for what purpose the coins were minted for. It might prove to be difficult to collect every single privy mark that exist, as that is like trying to collect every single silver dollar by different mints. Fortunately, such coins are not toooooooooooooooo expensive.
  14. Coins have to be declared as either gifts or alternative, like medals - you can't just send coins as numisatic items or it's very likely that they get confiscated. I got two packages that got confisated by the customs and I never get to see the light of them :'( All I got to see are the photos provided by the sellers...
  15. Another prototype medal which lead to this medal: http://www.numismat.ru/cgi-bin/auction.cgi?auct=33&lot=263
  16. Omg no. There is still bit loss in .BMP file. The only way you can avoid the most bit loss is if you save it under .png format. .gif and .tiff still don't do the job efficiently, as .gif is only supposed to be used for animated images and .tiff is supposed to be for vector images. .bmp is supposely bitloss, but that only works efficiently when the colors are not too complicated as in high resolution colors. Now, please do me and you a favor, which is to download a software called IrfanView, still currently free. Link: http://www.irfanview.com/ This software is powerful enough to crop your images, do some of the easy resizing, and converting one format to another and you are even able to choose the reduction %. Normally what I do nowadays for instance is when I get images from my scanner, I save it under .png, and even when I edit them, I still save it into another file as in .png. It is only when I want to publish my pictures online do I save them as .jpg and upload them. I rarely compress my .jpg files, at worst, around 80%, no less. Of course, you can argue how much space it can take, but for god christ, how much space can it possibly take up, including all the edited files etc? Mine usually takes up to 7-20mbs per coin because I keep every single file, including raw files or else it would be around 4mb or so. If you run out of space, you do have something called cd-burner or dvd-burner, where you can get medias for less than 20 cents or 80cents respectively. Storage is just not a problem.
  17. Oh my that is quick! Thanks for the swift reply. Hope you enjoyed the video too.
  18. Hum, as much as one's sterotypical image of "Soviet" products, which are often imaged as not well maintained, therefore the chances of a product / machinery working are not too high. So that would mean by some random chance that their refinery screwed up and hence, their only option left was to sell such coins Ukra, where did you get such infomation that Mezhnumismatika sold such coins?
  19. Found two platinum ruble coins!!! http://www.worldcoinsonline.com/pages.asp?...ct=iList&PCID=1 Rather "reasonable" price nowadays I guess... I don't know how long they last but what I have seen so far, they get snapped off pretty quick...
  20. Another similar coin for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/1912-RUSSIA-ROUBLE-NAP...1QQcmdZViewItem LOL @ $666. Wished I bought them a lot cheaper... I remember two-three years ago when they were still selling at around 200USD... which I can afford them now easily...
  21. One of my coins from my prized overstriked coin collection, this coin has to go because a) It is honestly a very nice piece, which I will detail it as following It will make a great coin for your collection even if you don't have an overstriked coin c) I got some unexpected bills to pay for d) I do happen to have a spare one (or I would be horribly upset parting with this coin) Ok, back to the coin, if you followed up my conversation on overstriked coins which I mentioned quite some time ago, the link is right down here: http://coinpeople.com/index.php?showtopic=354 The example shown there is not the coin that I have here for sale, but I could easily make the presentation if you would like so that you can show it to anyone else on the internet. Here are the pictures of the coin: Orientation of the 1793 5 kopeks design: Orientation of the underlaying 1796 10 kopeks design: In this image here: you most definately can see the 10 kopek word and also another underlying design of the previous 5 kopek coin!!! As in, this coin originally was a 5 kopek coin, which was then overstriked by a 1796 10 kopek coin and overstriked AGAIN by a 1793 5 kopek coin!!! Not easy to find, you can try your luck finding another one. On average, I see them around every half a year but they are usually very coarse, and not too finely graded. If you were to ask me about the grading, honestly this is quite a difficult one. I admit that there is a bit of green verdgies, which probably could be removed by acetone, but I will not as I have not experienced with it before. The overgrading at my best knowledge would be a F+ or a weak VF-, due to the overstriking features. The underlying 10 kopek design does appeal a bit, which I would grade it a suprising F-, as quite a fair bit of the underlying details do remain. As for the last underlying image, it is just as good as "worn" The technical details of this coin is as follows, Mass (grams): 48.2 Thickness (mm): 3.17-3.56 Diameter (mm): 44.52-45.13 (variance due to crude striking) As for the pricing, I am thinking of around 140USD (including all the lame registered shipping and paypal fees). I would be including the .swf file, technical details in both english and Russian (for any reasons there could be), and would be throwing any freebies that I have at the moment. Yes, you would wonder why such insane price but here is the rest of the story: Russian coins have been soaring insane high these recent years and I cannot just keep up with them due to their insane ridicious prices. Just three years ago, this is one of the catalogues that I had, but the prices are way more than what it is right now: According to the catalogue, the price of such overstriked Paul's recoining is around 80USD or so, but the 10 kopek coin is a shocking 1000USD+. (12 fold!) Why? It just happens to be that not too many of such coins were spared from the massive overstriking program. And currently such coins are almost impossible to get hold of, unless you want them in terms of overstrucked coins. Hope you enjoyed the story and thanks for taking your time to read. Please pm me if you are interested or if you want more infomation about this coin. Any reasonable offers are seriously taken into account.
