  1. Appearently it gave the coins some "greasy" effect, but I don't know what the side effects will be... That is why I have been awfully silent these few days... The damage was a lot worse than what I hoped for
  2. Hum... unfortunately US100 dollar bills are the world's most counterfeited notes, because of too many reasons. Obviously we know that there are still many countries that still accept payments in USD, which many tourists sure will be more than happy to use, but you know, there are always evil things going on... Leaving that aside, the security of the US note honestly in my opinion is a laughing stock. Metallic thread, ink, and watermark would most certainly would be the obvious security features, but other than that, it is not too horribly hard to counterfeit the rest of the other features! But honestly, how often would an average Joe look at the security feature of a banknote in a daily transaction? The worst story I heard this month is that some person tried to withdraw some $8,000 in China *FROM A BANK* all in 100 dollar bills and shockingly, over 40% of his bills are counterfeit. (lol) (obviously, he lost quite a fair bit of money there) But yes, I was just disappointed that the 20 dollar hologram design didn't make it, or it would have been a great way to ward off such counterfeit banknotes that still circulate...
  3. Wow, nice one. I have seen quite a few of them, but obviously, there are more counterfeit ones than genuine ones nowadays
  4. For some absurd reasons, some of my coins that I used to protect with moisture absorbant, (not silica gel, but a plastic container with some dry chemicals to absorb moisture) spilled over some of my rare and boxed proof coins, so yes... pretty badly shaken over it. It almost ruined my proof / proof-like 1834 Alexandrine Column ruble... >_< Good lord I had coin capsules... or I would be peeping now... I was told by my dad that it is quite corrosive, as it is some high calcium solution, although he wasn't too sure if that was the exact chemical compound. Any suggestions on what to do with some of the ruined coins and paper boxes that I have?
  5. Wow nice. Aussie 1oz platinum coin. I saw the Aussie 2oz platinum coin the other time. Nice coin, but meh, the price is way off an average's person limit here.
  6. I have NEVER seen anything like this until I came across this auction page: German Gold Coins Hoard Yes, there is a hoard of gold German coins, but there are two interesting gold coins there. How often do you see shattered coins?! I mean, if coins are metallic, I would assume that they would bend under most normal circumstances unless they have been lying around in some Soviet freezing temperature and a hammer fell on them by accident...
  7. Gold and silver bar... O_O Nice picture! And very educational at the same time... never knew...
  8. Most definately for sure; but you know, silver quarters and dimes still circulate in the US, after how long they have been gone. But most certainly aluminum pennies would have been really interesting. There are not too many countries that still mint aluminum coins, except poorer nations that are stripped out of all sorts of metals.
  9. Hum... tricky, I guess. Who knows how the ancient Greek did their things... well, one thing we know is that they certainly had more free time than what we do right now...
  10. Wow... 150 Euros for the 3.88 Japanese-German packed set... that's too expensive... for just uncirculated coins in some unique offical cases... I wouldn't mind getting a counterfeit 2 Euro coin... there is one counterfeit coin that I am looking for, which is Japan's 500yen coin, which appearently became a nationwide scandal.
  11. That is an exceeding horrific story there, 16d I mean... if they really could bother, they could have called any coin dealers and asked how much they are worth, it's definately not just some 12 cents! If they can't be bothered to make a call, you can always drag your cellphone and get them to talk to the dealer if they just don't trust your words... Good luck.
  12. Oops, forgive me I must be pretty tired. Yes, you are right.
  13. True, eBay has their sites almost all over the world, there are just a few countries that they haven't managed to conquered, one of which is Yahoo! Japan. Odd, but there is a reason why eBay never bothered to enter the Japanese market. eBay isn't a god as it used to be.
  14. It's usually the other way around, as in, the medals were made in as a prototype, and which the coins are made later The 1834, 1859, 1898 and 1912, 1913 rubles were modeled after this. So... you have quite a bit there
  15. Anything that has a date on it... therefore... no medieval coins I guess for me.
  16. P.S. there are 2 ounces, 10 ounces and kilo silver coins of the same series to go with it.
  17. From scanner: From digital camera: Yes, I know I have a bit of color contrast issues here, that's the best I can manage for now It's roughly redish-brown, or you can call it rust color. Please kindly grade what do you think; I will put my opinion down later.
  18. Sorry, I am useless when it comes down to Arabic. The top left is from UAE, and the rest should be Egyptian, Turkish, or some Arab coins...
  19. Wait, did you know that, that Swedish 5 kopeks coins are counterfeit coins obviously by the Swedish, as they were profitting out from the copper pricing scam. (lol) Obviously, a lot of them got remelted because they are counterfeits, afterall like the majority of the votes that responded to the forum so far: "NO to counterfeits" But imagine if you are born in that era, your first response to such would be: "why should we keep a counterfeit copy coin?!?!?!?!" How much more different can this be, to what we are discussing?
  20. I'm assuming that those coins are those chinese bronze coins, afterall they are the cheapest ever. I cannot imagine such item made out of expensive holed coins... An example is like this: http://www.joelscoins.com/china.htm And obviously you get chinese coins a lot cheaper than what's offered there.
