  1. I bought this 5 kopek coin dated 1970 and this particular coin is a rather tough key date. I didn't think much about this coin but was happy as it is a tough key date that I was looking for a while. However when I glanced at the photo I took, there is a "scratch" on the number "0" which for one second I thought was a possibility of a re-engraved 6 to 0. It would honestly suck but I have no other examples of a 1970 or 1976 5 kopek to compare it with. What do you think?
  2. Thanks for bringing this thread up guys. I just remembered getting two 10 kopek coins last week but never got around taking photos. The hunt is officially over: The one on the left unfortunately is a counterfeit as it doesn't have any silver in it. Made me wonder if that actually did circulate and fooled a lot of people. Would be an interesting contemporary counterfeit.
  3. Here are the other two: not spectacular but these were pretty cheap back then. If you look hard enough, you might be lucky to find one for around 70USD in low grade condition. I was trying to upgrade the 5 kopek but look at the price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=330435584062
  4. Now these are going to stretch it a bit but I'll post them anyways
  5. I had to look through what I had. That said, I haven't uploaded all of my banknote pictures yet. Here's a few: see323 has already posted some of the nicest Singapore bird notes as well as the Japanese yen.
  6. Whatever that's in here: http://www.gxseries.com/numis/numis_index.htm Generally Japanese, Korean, Russian, a bit of Chinese these days and then circulating coins in Australia.
  7. Was looking at ebay.de and here's one example of 10 kopek: http://cgi.ebay.de/10-Kopeken-1799-Russlan...=item5886b5e919 Looks like the other 10 kopek was a bargain!
  8. Candidate: Very nice! Don't think I'll see anything better for a while. Thanks for showing
  9. 240USD for that?! I'm pretty sure I bought all 5 Paul I rubles for that much years before Have to look for it at some other time. Anyone with any Paul I silver coins? Speaking of which, I don't even have a full set of Paul I copper coins.
  10. Paul I (1797-1801) silver coinage seems to be a huge challenge to locate even though it was struck for good 5 years. While obtaining a type set of Paul I copper coins seem to be easy other than the polushka, the silver set seems to be a complete different story. It's so difficult that even locating them can be a real pain. I am guessing that if you want to assemble a general silver type set, it maybe easier and cheaper to buy all types of Paul I copper coins including all mintmarks other than the rare mule denga/polushka coin. Of course, the efimok silver coin is out of the story - it's just too expensive. I personally find the poltina and polupoltinnik to be near impossible to find at a reasonable price. I'm happy enough with damaged examples until I find something that's within my budget: 5 kopek 10 kopek Polupoltinnik This is an extremely lucky find - just a dollar! I'm not going to complain considering how difficult it is to find in any example. I don't think I'm going to look for the other variety... Poltina This one was from a local coin dealer. Tooled etc but still hard to find. Ruble At one stage, I had 5 of these rubles and decided to sell a couple since I just can't keep them all. Not too sure why I had that many even though I'm not a fan of Paul I's simplistic design. Now look at the prices Please feel free to share your Paul I silver coins. I remember a forum member here showed off his efimok a while ago. Edited to add in the 10 kopek image
  11. Very nice pictures everyone. I had a couple of fossils that I picked from field trips but I lost them somehow when I was moving. Must have thrown them out as mere rocks I have to insist that novodels can be collectable. Don't be mistaken - just because they are restrikes doesn't mean that they are cheap. Taking the example of the famous US1804 King of Siam set. I'm sure you know that went for a record price. Who knows what it would bring now.
  12. Be warned though: don't be fooled by sellers who claim coins as novodels. Novodels are supposed to be official "restrikes" by the mint, not some crazy fantasy or counterfeit coins. Novodels are very collectible but make sure that they are authentic.
  13. How can I forget that 1821/0 overdate poltina Thanks for reminding me Alex. You have a very nice Peter I poltina
  14. Turns out I didn't have as many as I thought I did - just 7! A lot of them are filler pieces as I know they can be very very expensive if I want to upgrade them. A damaged piece as it's reengraved but it was VERY affordable - don't think I have ever seen a filler Paul I poltina. This 1857 poltina actually looks quite different now as the toning has become a lot darker. Probably cleaned before the seller sold it to me and then I didn't pay attention. Bobh - I know you got plenty of show off with your Nicolas II poltinas
  15. Vfox, as what Blackfox has said, they are just dated differently. The first coin is Showa 39 which corresponds to 1964 in the Gregorian calendar and the other one is Showa 38 (1963). As I have gone through a fair bit of 5 yen coins, such misalignment is relatively uncommon, in fact this is the first one I have come across other than one other crazy misalignment holed coin that I have seen sold for outrageous price. I know it's easy to say this is common with other world coins but Japanese coins? I am curious to see more examples.
  16. I remember going through a fair bit of Japanese 5 yen coins while I was in Japan but never have I come across a hole like this: Sure it might not seem to be major but considering how technical the Japan mint is as well as looking at the error coin market, Japanese error coins are quite rare. Example of a typical 5 yen coin: Has anyone come across any 5 yen coins like this?
  17. Overstruck on a polupoltinnik or something, which is then "fixed" by clipping the rest of the planchet I'm saying this because the area "CAB" corresponds to the area "P"olupoltinnik. Ruble and poltina will not make sense as it will correspond to "M" for moneta. Shame though, I wanted to bid on it for further study on overstrikes but that's way beyond what I can afford.
  18. Hi Olga, Welcome to coinpeople and I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. Btw, you can register a free service on http://www.imageshack.us and you can upload pictures up to 1.5mb each.
  19. Apparently I totally forgot about you Grivna! REALLY nice coins there! Something I can wish for but will never obtain one until I hit the lottery.
  20. We need a 1726! (otherwise someone here has to buy? )
  21. I only have a 1724 and 1720 and I'm pretty much done
  22. Nice doubling on the year, in particular the number 7 for the Peruvian gold coin, as well as a minor die crack.
