Another ebay fake

Seems like a Chinese who registered in the US site or some sort. Most of his dealings are with the Chinese sellers.

Yeah, and it's over 900 USD right now......it's sad how this is allowed.

Ya know, these coins are really well made.......but in the case of this one....too well made, I don't recall ever seeing a small eagle reverse anything with nearly full breast feathers....especially while the hair is soft on the obverse. I guess the little bit of wear they put this coin through fooled most of those people.

To me that fake is scary. It is much better quality than the typically seen counterfeits. If it wasn't for the slight porosity in the fields and a few other things I would would have thought that it was real from those pictures. The color looks pretty good as does the general style. No blatant errors.

Yep, it would be hard to sell one of those to someone face to face, where they could have the coin in hand. The USDOJ is totally uninterested in busting anyone other than a US citizen in these counterfeit merchandise scams. The counterfeiters and the importers are always allowed to walk free, so long as they're Chinese, whether the merchandise is faked collectible coins or faked nike sneakers. Only if a US citizen is involved on the retail sales end of the transaction will there be an arrest.

Ebay management has most likely learned this and will only invest a minimum amount of effort to discourage the use of their venue for fraudulent purposes by foreign scammers. They recently announced that all sellers of Nike products must be paypal certified starting sometime soon. They will probably never get around to doing that with coins.

There are plenty of warning signs in the listing itself, too. Private bids, shipping by UPS ground, which only insures for $100, no mention of escrow service on a coin in that value range, the obvious language errors which point to a Chinese seller " If you have any question about this coin...... I will gladly reply you".

Maybe there were only two shill bidders going at it against each other and the listing failed to actually catch a mullet after all. ;-)

Ended at $5.500.00 .....sad......but anyway here is another most likely fake coin, and this one looks MUCH better with correct edge inscriptions, but poorly made in the edge. This guys negatives are then covered up by his ebay people, check it out for yourself.

What about the certified coins this seller has listed. Would you consider these suspect also?

Personally, yes. Anything can be "made" to look like the real thing, it's unlikely that the hologram could be faked by them, but it could just be a cracked case that is resealed. Which can be done from what I've seen. Either that or they have a few legit coins to get good ratings, and sell fake ones from time to time for some extra money. (which is my guess)

Just reading through their feedback they have sold two 1877-CC trade dollars in as many weeks!

Too the same buyer!

And how could a seller from china have this many choice coins for sale?

Something smells fishy!

Just wanted to bump this back up, and add a side note for those looking for even worn examples of this that are made with this fake die combination.

Take a look at the 4th and 5th stars on the left hand side. Notice there is a die break at the end of those two stars. Now look at the first coin I posted, and this one above, note the same die cracks. Beware, and be aware. :ninja:

And one more to add to the lists. Basically, stay away from China for US coins lol.

Keep in mind, a lettered edge doesn't mean it's real!
