I personally pressed this lot in the past few weeks. Scottishmoney Posted October 3, 2006 Report Share Posted October 3, 2006 My favourite non business or family visit vacation was the November 2000 trip my wife and I took to Paris. Paris in November is cold and often it rains in the evening, but really nothing can be more romantic. The cool drizzly evenings under the umbrella trapesing along the Seine and gazing at all of the lit up monuments, most notably the Tour Eiffel. The Tour Eiffel was lit up with lights in celebration of the year 2000 still. The food, especially the croissants and ice creme were fantastic, and I even learned to appreciate French beer. I had been to Paris previously by myself, but in retrospect, Paris can be a very lonely city when you are by yourself, it is much much more enjoyable when you share it with someone you love. The cafe's are much more enjoyable, the walking around the arrondisements etc are much much more enjoyable. Not to mention shopping with the one you love. Dockwalliper Posted October 3, 2006 Report Share Posted October 3, 2006 July 1982. Week long visit to Atlanta. Drove down thru the Virginias and Carolinas. Stayed with friends. We did it all, Stone Mt., The General, Peach tree mall, Braves game, Atlanta Historical Sco., Gone with the wind Museum. Drove back thru Tennessee, Kentucky & Ohio. Had about $2 left when we got home. Funny thing. Theres an old steam train that runs around Stone Mt. About 1/2 way around you get "boarded" by "Yankees".........Sounded like no Yankees I know...."Yall stay calm now." Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I landed in Achorage, then took the Alaska Railroad up north to Denali National Park. Stayed in a cabin and hiked around the park, looking at wildlife and enjoying the amazing sites. Finally took the train back to Anchorage and enjoyed some of the most awesome king crab legs at a local restaurant before going back to the airport and back to Portland. Lots of fun! Stopped in San Luis and visited our property. Then across Southern Colorado thru Pagosa -- my buddy Dave's home and on to Durango. Did the Durango Silverton Railroad. West from Durango to Four Corners then into Utah to the Moab area. Stayed for about 4 days in Moab. Went horseback riding into the back country to see some springs and Indian caves that are only reachable by horseback or foot (many days of hiking). Headed over to Az from there and then back into NW New Mexico. Saw a bunch of the Navajo towns and areas mentioned in Hillerman's books. One of the best times of my life. We borrowed my father-in-law's work van, drove up Finland to Norway and then back down for over a week. We slept in the van on side roads, ate simple foods that we purchased from grocery stores, visited simple sights...basically travelled broke. But we had the best time on the road and loved every minute of it. It was so memorable that we did it again for our 10th anniversary. Since we slept in the van and not in hotels, we had no shower access so we had to bath in rivers/lakes. The problem is, that only 15 - 20 pupils from my school can make this student exchange, and we've got 4 different classes per year. For example there's a class 8A, 8B, 8C and 8D. I don't know the American system, but that's the German one. If my english is good enough I can visit Florida for 3 or 4 weeks. I go to school like each other pupil and, well, I'm living in an American family. But I'm sure I can expend my English language here in 3 years I'm sure this student exchange would be a great beginning to have friends in the USA and perhabs I can visit them every year or something like that. Oh.. and next year I want to visit my aunt in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it's a German state on the Baltic Sea.
