  1. 8 maravedis coins are 28mm. quarter dollar = 24.3mm, half dollar = 30.6mm
  2. Yesterday brought some Croatian notes from Tiffibunny (too lazy to reconfigure the scanner for notes, so images will have to wait), and these 2 items: Yes, I have been seriously working on the UK commemorative coins. I have started a display of Royal Mint packaged coins, if anyone is interested.
  3. Spain - 8 maravedis. mintmark on the reverse, bottom, either J, JA, or an aqueduct. The J & JA are from Jubia Mint, the aqueduct is from Segovia. According to my old 1996 edition of Krause, in VG the value starts at $5.00. Not a bad find for a quarter.
  4. Got yesterday's package scanned and up-loaded, finally.
  5. Haven't checked the box today, yet, so there may be more to add. Yesterday's packages included: 2005 Canada - 1 c (P & no P), 5c, 10c, 25c, $1, $2 (thanks, Unicorn!!) 2005 UK - £5 Trafalgar & £5 Nelson (in folders, with slipcase for the pair)
  6. With a design like that, with absolutely no writing, with a square hole, and with nothing on the back, I would say that it isn't a coin at all, but probably a concho. (ornamental discs used on saddles, belts, and other leather goods)
  7. Today, I found a big stash (should I say hoard!) of Soviet minors to add to my collection, compliments of SS!! Thank you, very much. The Russian book has been neglected for quite some time, and it was due for some additions!! Thanks again!!!
  8. I received my copies yesterday. Haven't had time to sit down and read it yet, but I did flip through it, and was quite pleased. Lots of pictures, and a LOT of information. A nice addition to my small (but growing) numismatic library. Thanks!!
  9. Here is a nice example of one. I have this on my watchlist, and if there is enough left of my weekly coin allowance, I will probably get it later this week. I have been having trouble finding this particular coin in the normal Royal Mint specimen folder. £2 1995 UN commemorative Actually, I believe they are referred to as PNC (postal numismatic covers), rather than FDC.
  10. Then it is most likely a planchet flaw, and not a die crack.
  11. If you wanted the small brass centavos frow the 1950's and 1960's, I could hook you up!!
  12. The only ones I have are the Terry Fox loon and the V nickel. Any chance of some of our northern neighbors being able to hook me up with some of the others??
  13. Bill listed a couple coins from Latvia that I needed, so I snatched them up. When he PM'ed to give me the details, he offered a few more at a great price, to sweeten the pot. When I opened the package today, not only do I find all the great Latvian coins I was expecting, but also a couple of Romanian bonus coins!! Great dealing with Bill, as always.
  14. $2.00. Let's run this thing up some, for Ben's sake!!!
  15. I have 36 available. I am very reasonable. We can take this to PM to work out some details.
  16. Time for me to jump into the mix. How about 2 Kennedys. ($1.00)
  17. Actually, it is from the Kingdom of Naples & Sicily (Two Sicilies), issued under the reign of Ferdinando IV, for use in Naples, listed as KM#96, that type was minted from 1799-1803.
  18. Yes, they do. And for me, this added knowledge is going to get expensive!! I just won (on Yahoo! auctions) a cover with the 1968 5 new pence piece in it (PM'ed for the first day of release of the 5 n.p.) Hopefully, once it arrives I will get a decent scan of it. Also been seeing some of the recent commem £5 in covers, which I am resisting, so far!
  19. Unless you are buying in bulk (5,000 at a time, or more), then once you factor shipping charges, it would probably be best just to pick them up at your local dealer.
  20. 1977 UK proof set 1978 UK proof set 1979 UK proof set a nice lot of coins from Czech Republic & Slovakia, from Trantor.
  21. So, no more Thailand 10 baht coins getting fed into vending machines???
  22. For all us Americans: 1 gallon = 3.78 litre * 3,60 lei = 13,61 lei/gallon = $4.54/gallon!!!
