  1. When getting some new president dollars for a fellow board member at the bank yesterday, I got 15 Ike dollars too! I gave 10 to a coworker who uses them for her kids (tooth fairy money plus chores), and her son is becoming quite a collector, so anything to help the next generation of numismatists!
  2. It really depends, there are many types of 2s used on the series, and even on a single date like this with over 50 die marriages. The most distinct difference is the base of the 2, with some being a square base (like this one) vs. the curled base. However, the sharp thin curl of the serif on the 2 is a diagnostic for this die marriage (O-109, R.4).
  3. Got this one in the mail today from Blackhawk!
  4. Yes, I did order it the day it came out (though later in the evening after the rush!), but we'll see when it arrives, tentatively scheduled for 2/20.
  5. Well, technically these didn't come in the mail, but I picked them up on a lark at last week's coin show:
  6. Silver is always good! Right now the silver value is between 8x and 10x face value, so certainly worth keeping and not spending. As for a novice collection, you have to start somewhere, why not start with what you have already? All of us started a little differently, but most of us started with coins from our change too!
  7. I got these two in the mail today, one from someone on the NGC board and one from a fellow coinpeep!
  8. I guess my standards must be lower than yours! For coins like these, I am really attracted to that peripheral toning pattern, the 1829 shows it more than the 25, but it's there. Beyond that, I don't really get too hung up on the details. These two I bought from JJ Teaparty, and all I saw was a photo of the 25, and Gail assured me that the 29 was even better and that I was sure to like it, and she was correct! I actually like the 29 a lot more and it cost less!
  9. That's a real nice one Dave, Congrats!
  10. Just got this one in the mail today, who says US currency isn't colorful?
  11. The first is an 1891 Martha Washington $1 silver certificate. The second is a series 1869 $1 legal tender (similar to the 1917 design, but this one has a rainbow of color on the face, and a different back). The last is a series 1862 $1 legal tender, the first of the "greenbacks" with Salmon P. Chase on the face (he was secretary of the treasury under Lincoln). This one is printed on very thin paper, unlike the normal cotton linen fiber of later issues. So, yes, I suppose I am going earlier, and might have another 1869 note added soon!
  12. Here are three that arrived today:
  13. Glad you like it, though I think the 33 is much nicer! I will be putting up an 1818 on eBay tomorrow, I'll post a link in the Buy/Sell section so you can take a look, you might get it cheap!
  14. Oh the corrosion of it all! If only there were a premium for rusty cars, my last 2 purchases would have much better trade-in value! =P
  15. Got a few new busties, all from the 1830s: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=954869 http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=954868 http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=954870
  16. Got my 1818 today, you can look at it here: http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/re...leCoinID=465274 Sorry, I looked and I typed 1812, but I must have been confused, it was an 1818 that I bought!
  17. Yeah, I don't remember exactly what I paid, but that one was over $500, the 1818 is a wonderful XF and I paid $463 (I bought them both from a bustie collector on the NGC forum that I respect very much!)
  18. It is a series 1923, Speelman-White, that was the only one, they are all that series and signature combination.
  19. Got this 1836 bustie a couple weeks ago, a new 1812 should be coming this week! http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/re...opleSetID=32407
  20. Yes it is indeed a "pokerchip" note, the last $10 United States note ever produced! Nice funny back Dave, it looks to be in excellent condition!
  21. I got this one in the mail last weekend:
