  1. I got several proof sets today, two 1970 Bahamas, one 1972 Bahamas and a 1973 Jamaica. I was only interested in the Bahamas, so look for the extras in the B/S/T forum!
  2. Neat find on the Balboa, the Panamanian currency is still pegged to the dollar, and I believe most of their coins are still minted here, I know I have a bunch of cents, nickels, dimes, quarters and halves, and they are all identical in composition to our coins. I really like the old silver Balboas, I have a half a roll of BU Balboas from 1966, each one contains 26.73g of 0.900 fine silver, just like a Morgan or Peace dollar!
  3. At my coin club meeting last night I got 2 Susan B Anthony dollars and a Harrison dollar and promptly spent them as quick as I could today!
  4. I always liked the design of the 50-franc!
  5. Since the design of the $50 national came about in 1902, it was before the Wright Brothers' flight, so no biplane. That was added when the notes were redesigned for the Federal Reserve in 1914.
  6. It is very similar to the series 1914 $20 FRN, though I confess I haven't looked at the details. They are facing opposite directions, and the $20 has an ocean liner as well on the right side, and a biplane flying above the locomotive.
  7. Here is another I just got in the mail on Friday:
  8. Thanks guys! Sweet promo note Scottishmoney, and nice trash find Dreamflight! Those Hong Kong notes issued by different banks remind me of the good old days in the USA like the ACE I posted above!
  9. Here are a couple I bought over the weekend:
  10. I was having dinner at the Big Boy in South Haven Michigan on Tuesday night and the two ladies at the booth next to mine were having a conversation about a "funny" quarter, I asked if it was Canadian and they said no, so I asked to look at it, and sure enough it was a 1957 silver quarer. So I told them it was silver and worth a lot more than a quarter, and that they should definitely not spend it! They appreciated the info and put it in the "safe" part of her purse.
  11. Ok, I don't have many toners, but here are some that I like:
  12. 1912 was the only date of V nickels minted outside Philadelphia, the mintmark is on the reverse below the dot to the left of cents. Denver minted 8,474,000 and San Francisco minted just 238,000!
  13. Nice purchase on the 20000 peso, I assume it's the old peso. I still have a 2000, 5000 and 10000 from spring break in cancun in 1992!
  14. That is sure a sweet one Dave!!!
  15. Ok, this one didn't come in the mail, but I picked it up at a local show today, a nice 1805 draped bust! I also picked up an 1877 trade dollar with a hole in it as a filler for my Dansco 7070, but it was in the 1/2 off bin, so I can complain for $22!
  16. Well, I put it at about a VF (Scottishmoney can feel free to disagree with me) so it's not super crispy, but pretty firm with obvious folds in the middle. The edges are very nice as well.
  17. Cincinnati? Do you mean Cleveland?
  18. Yes, I have to thank Scottishmoney for allowing me to relieve him of that note, but rest assured it has a good home now!
  19. I got this one yesterday, not as colorful as the many posted lately, but pretty nonetheless!
  20. Oh yeah, 4th difference, 50 stars on the obverse vs. 46, but that's ok since they added stars in 1912 too.
  21. Yes, this is nothing at all like the gold eagle bullion coins which are lower relief and have a completely different reverse. This coin has only three differences from the original that I can see, the date, the motto and the fact that it has $20.67 in gold by 1907 standards, making it overweight and unacceptable by those standards. I would consider it part of the Saint series, so long as it is a 1-year issue, which is my understanding. If they start making these every year, my views would likely change.
  22. Well, it's actually very well executed from the design, the lettering seems a little off, but that's really because the coin is of reduced diameter (the size of a $10 gold piece with double thickness). I've seen the original in the Smithsonian, and this compares extremely well to that coin. Given the size, with the naked eye it seems like some areas are less detailed, but when you look with a loope, they are all there and then some. As a purist, my biggest complaint is the addition of the motto on the reverse, but again it makes this a one-year type!
