  1. Sorry about that. I googled billion coins but got no hits so I assumed a misspelling. I would say you can place them in whatever category you believe fits them - other metals being the one most logical for me. BUT if the coins are predominantly silver you might go ahead and place them in silver.
  2. You'll need to put your pictures in Omnicoin.com for the contest. I see that you have a banknotebank account so omnicoin should not be a problem for you. Looking forward to you participating.
  3. silver bullion coins go in the NCLT category.

You've got a good supply of Russian coins. Maybe I need to start a little collection of them. 22 cents
  5. Hello Andreas and welcome to CoinPeople. In March we will be starting Popular Coin Idol 2013 (PCI2013) which is a contest where members can enter coins and by vote select the ones they find most pleasing. There are 9 groups and then date categories within group. Check out the posts in the PCI2011 forum for more info. I hope you enjoy it here and I do hope you'll join us for PCI2013.
  6. Hello and welcome to CoinPeople. It's a nice looking coin. Hopefully someone who can give you some info will come along soon. Glad you decided to join us.
  7. Very nice and interesting info too. So they must have made quite a few coins in 1896.
  8. Another very interesting coin. I like the design on this too. Perhaps and expansion of my collection is being called for.
  9. That's a nice piece Ian. I really like the coat-of-arms.
  10. Hello Mike and welcome to CoinPeople. The easiest way to add photos is via another image site. You can then select image from the toolbar and add the url. Or you can join Omnicoin.com and upload your coin photos there and then post the images here.
  11. That's a great looking coin. I hope you're considering some of your coins for entry into PCI2013. Check the PCI2011 forum for threads about the contest.
  12. Certainly a less than overwhelming response so far. Perhaps this whole thing should be rethought. There might be a simpler method if only a few people are interested.
  13. Seems like most folks don't care one way or the other.
  14. The original medal in this thread sold at auction for $50. The estimate was $80.00.
  15. I'm hoping that everyone will read the rules/etc post and comment now. It's discouraging to get started and then have someone decide there's an error or something that they really think is unfair/wrong/whatever.
  16. Very nice coin and terrific information. I take it that restrikes are a major interest for you.
  17. Neat coins and terrific information. I somehow missed the original post. Sure wouldn't mind having one of those in my collection. steelheadwill - Hello and welcome to CoinPeople. Glad you're here.
  18. The question has asked about Tin Farthings with copper plugs. Are they to be entered in the category for coppers because of the plug material, "other metals" because of the tin, "bi-metals" because of the mixed composition or Group 9 as specials? So now you have a chance to make your feeling known. Give us a vote and some discussion if you would. Here's an example from Omnicoin
  19. Personally I would count a tin farthing as "other metals". The best way to handle this type of problem is to do a poll and let the participants vote. Group 9 --- can be anything you'd like to enter in that category, even though it is covered by other categories. Your special coins, scripts, scrips, Notgeld that you don't want to put in the metals categories .ceramics...So it's three free entries for whatever floats your boat. Part of the attempt on my part to make sure this is fun for everyone.
  20. Thanks to George for the well documented startup info above. I stole it from his PCI2011 startup post.
  21. It's time to start preparations PCI2013 Here are the suggested categories: Seven Materials Trees: Gold Silver Copper Other Precious Metals (platinum, palladium, etc) Other Base Metals (nickel, Cu-Ni, steel, aluminum, etc) Bimetallic (must be significantly and obviously bimetallic (i.e. silver plugged copper coins are still considered copper)) Non-Metallic (wood, ceramic, paper, etc) In each tree, there will be 9 branches: Group 1: Ancient & Medievel: XX-1500AD Group 2: 1501-1700 Group 3: 1701-1800 Group 4: 1801-1900 Group 5: 1901- 2000 Group 6: 2001- Present Group 7: NCLT Group 8: Exonumia Group 9: Special Coins - anything you collect that you feel warrants being outside the other categories. Here are the suggested entry rules based on PCI2011. 1. You may enter as many of the groups as you wish. 2. You may enter three (3) coins in each group. 3. Submit only coins that belong to you - no borrowed coins or borrowed images 4. A heading before each coin image url should in the following format: ...your ID; tree ID; group ID; coin description For example: Sylvester, Silver, 1901-2000, 1930-P USA Standing Liberty Quarter 5. Images of the coins must be in omnicoin.com --- reasons for this have been discussed on a number of occasions. 6. Please post your images for each group in a single post in the proper thread for that group. 7. Post only the url of the image -- not an img post 8. Include a brief description of the coin/item that you would like included along with the image in the competition. Here's your chance to bring the historic importance to the forefront. 9. The submission threads will be opened when PCI2013 officially begins and locked before the first competition postings take place. Until they're locked you can edit your post to make whatever changes needed. Make sure you tell us when you make a major edit. Please do not add additional posts to the submission threads. Please review and let me have your comments.
