nohope587
Does anyone here see anything strange about this 1941 Mercury Dime? Does anyone know what caused it?
Trantor_3
At first glance, all I see is a rim ding, could be caused by so many things....

Sir Sisu
At first glance, all I see is a rim ding, could be caused by so many things.... I am guessing that he means the "L" in "Liberty" on the obverse looks almost like a "U"?

joanjet
What is that mint mark? It looks very strange to me.
UncleBobo
What is that mint mark? It looks very strange to me. I think you are referring to the engraver's combined A & W to the right of liberty's neck. It use to fool me too! As for problem, is the In God We Trust slanting down towards the right? Is that a hole in Liberty's neck right below the In God We Trust? If it is, both problems may have been caulsed by the same impact. I don't know how, but it makes sense to me. nohope587
I don't know at first I thought it was part of a D or S mint mark but it does not fit. I do not know very much about Mercury Dimes. Are die chips common?
28Plain
I don't know about a die chip. That looks like the die was punched in error right about in the spot where the mintmark should be punched. It's probably a very rare die variety worth a couple jillion bucks. GDJMSP
This is the area I am most interested in. I'd say it's probably a die clash.
