  1. Only time I saw one was a 1980s/90s "repro" (fantasy maybe?) where the back side suggested a 1940s 5P.
  2. The coins are genuine. Is there something in particular that you'd like to know?
  3. Considering that they were redeemable for gold I can't think of a reason why someone would turn it down
  4. Very nice - looks like it has been saved for virtually all of the past several decades and recently spent from a collection.
  5. Welcome to Coinpeople and thank you for a very informative and well illustrated first post!
  6. I don't have any info but just wanted to say that you made a great observation!
  7. How often does one encounter radiate crowns?
  8. Always do. That writing on the crown's holder is one of the few that I recognize.
  9. Great stuff! Dealer #2's always great for being one of the few true numismatists around - someone who deals from ancient to modern, a to z, and knows their stuff to boot!
  10. Getting close to the end! Luxembourg, the Ukraine, Vietnam, Laos, Nepal, Ghana, and Uruguay are probably the easiest ones to strike off as all should be findable in any 50c or less world coin bin. For most of the others, a good challenge would be getting a circulated coin - while it may be tempting to buy a NCLT (this includes BU circulation coinages that are primarily made for sale to collectors in the West) to fill in a spot, I found it very exciting when I was able to come across circulated examples for tougher countries - my Sudan piece, for example, was from the 1970s but only G/VG.
  11. If you can post a clear picture I'm sure someone can provide some assistance.
  12. During the several months after they came out, I successfully collected a set from each of the 12 countries, by trading with collectors in Europe. I recall my excitment in receiving a German set in the mail on Dec. 29 (some countries had released coin packs a bit early so people could get a feel for the new coinage). I haven't added to it, but it's one part of my collection that I'm the most happy about, since each set found its own journey to me, without having passed through dealers.
  13. Here, a nickel buys you 2 minutes on the meter
  14. Is it just me, or is the date rendered in a thinner font than usual?
  15. It'd be interesting if the 5c was changed to steel - since that would mean that vending machines would likely be unable to accept it, since I can't imagine operators changing the mechanism unless there was a change in the quarter.
  16. Unlike with the US, where the half dollar is ocassionally seen (at casinos, etc.), the 50c has been out of circulation since the silver to nickel/clad changeover here, and most people born since then don't recognize it - that includes bank tellers.
  17. Thanks! That explains why I don't recall seeing it. Both notes have essentially the same front design. http://www.boc.cn/bi...06_1695972.html
  18. When is that HSBC $50 from? I don't recall seeing that type before. BTW, on the topic of HK notes, BoC is issuing commem HK$100 and Macau 100 notes to celebrate their (bank's) centennial.
