In 1908 Franz Josef I, emperor of Austria, celebrated the 60th year of his reign. He was crowned in 1848 in Vienna. FJI had one of the longest reigns in the world, he was an emperor for 68 years, from 1848 to 1916. He died during the First World War, and was succeeded by Karl I who was forced to abdicate in 1918. He was the last significant emperor of Austria, and the last one who was popular when he died. Austro-Hungarian empire dissolved after the WWI.
The commemorative series includes 1 and 5 Coronas in silver, and 10, 20 and 100 Coronas in gold. There are restrikes of the 100 Corona. There is also a commemorative stamp series and many medals commemorating the anniversary.
