  1. As long as it's just the auction catalaogs and not the coins then I am fine. I want as little as possible to carry to the old age home. Two guitars, two watches, and 200 coins.
  2. My wife is selling my Heritage/Stacks/Goldbergs/Scotsman auction catalogs on eBay as she felt they were making the office look "messy". Here are the eBay auctions if you are interested: http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e6de1a53c http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e6de201c0 http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e6de21cba http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e6de1d8f1 Thanks for looking!
  3. I bought a lot of nine Swiss Schutzenfest medals from Heritage a few months ago but apparently do not have the free time that Zohar has... Here is the first medal in the Richter book, an R-01b. (1849 Aatgau, 45mm silver) Looks to have been cleaned long ago and is starting to retone with some nice colors. You'll probably see this on eBay one day as I bought the lot for the five Holy Freres medals.
  4. Canon 20D SLR with Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens Diffused Speedlite Mounted on a Kaiser copy stand As seen here..... Recent photo with this setup.....
  5. I used to own a fairly extensive collection of Dutch paper money dated 1916-1955 and had a very nice 1000G note with an interesting serial #..... Sadly I sold it all to concentrate on other interests. Happily most of the notes went back to the Netherlands where they rightfully belong. If you are interested most of the notes can be seen here: http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?/topic/18480-netherlands-banknotes-1916-1955/
  6. Rod, NGC has problems both grading and identifying Schutzenfest medals and Conder tokens. Ideally they need real experts for these areas. Don't hold your breath...
  7. My boss went on his honeymoon last month with his new wife and I worked 12 consecutive days. As a reward I bought this after thinking about it for two months. 1902 Fleurier (Neuchatel) R-986a 45mm - Silver Bernard Ulysse Jacot The medal is absolutely perfect and fully deserves the MS-67 grade. The sheer size and high relief almost qualify this as sculpture, especially the obverse. The scratches seen on both sides are on the holder, not the medal. You would think that a $400 certified coin would ship inside a plastic slab protector before it is put into a cardboard Safe-T-Mailer. You would be wrong. When are coin dealers going to understand that the glue on the inside of the Safe-T-Mailers is gritty and toxic to the surface of NGC slabs? If I sell a slabbed coin it ships in a slab protector and in a clean ziplock. I wish (insert names of several major auction companies and coin dealers here) would take more care in shipping their coins. Fire the kid in shipping and give the job to an old guy who will treat every coin as if it were his own. Ok, end of rant. I love the medal but find the holder most annoying. But there are two ice cold pale ales in the fridge and that will cheer me up... =)
  8. Relatively cheap for a rare Pidcock's token..... And it's in BU condition! (BU = Beat Up)
  9. Excellent photo and great choice of background. Not quite as good but another example of bronze/copper on a black background:
  10. I'll assume that's a rhetorical question Constanius...
  11. That's because your dad helped me get my medal directly from an honest Swiss seller. I still can't believe I own it!
  12. 1910 Bern (R-263a) GOLD medal spotted on eBay..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160603013907&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Way overpriced and (unless it's just a very bad scan) not only cleaned but the obverse has been polished to the extent that many details are missing. Nevertheless, if you have the money and want a gold Bern, this is your chance. Make him an offer. Feel free to use this photo of mine to compare the obverse details.....
  13. I still love this thread, but I was out at 1666.
  14. I received a 1952-S Roosevelt dime in change tonight from my favorite Asian deli. Probably XF or so and my birth year.
  15. I still remember the day this surfaced last year, and as much as I wanted it for my collection it really is WAY out of my price range. I hoped it would land in a Moore collection and I see it has. Congratulations Rod on an uber-rare find!
  16. Probably just his version of turn of the century marketing. It's not like he could advertise on the internet!
  17. As Forrest Gump would say, "Like two peas in a pod..."
  18. Zohar - Mintage unknown but probably no more than 200. Here is another that I had to buy. A mere 80 were minted. 1909 Thurgau (Frauenfeld) R-1277 28mm Silver Hans Frei Very Rare! (RR) NGC MS61
  19. I have wanted this Schutzenfest medal for years and while money is tight these days I jumped on it while I had the chance. 1909 Basel Shooting Medal R-132c 29mm Silver Hans Frei Rare! [R] NGC MS63 Hans Frei at his best! If you own the Richter catalog you will find that R-132, 133 and 134 form a very nice Hans Frei set. Now that I have the R-132 I only need the R-134. Maybe Zohar has one...
  20. Exceptional photos/scans Dave. This is quite a reach, but here goes... Nothing improves the holidays like a fine ale, and you'll need hops to make it.
  21. Interesting thread and the photos are pretty good ikaros. You would think that in a city as big as New York that there would be numerous examples, yet I have never seen even one. I'll keep my eyes open.
  22. Rare that it happens and yes, it does make the medal special.
  23. 1905 Olten (Solothurn) R-1128B Silver - 23mm Holy Freres 795 minted This is the 23mm companion to the 45mm R-1127a as seen here..... The new medal was purchased from the family of the actual winner. Mint state condition in a perfect presentation case.
  24. Quite nice, looks more MS62 than AU58 to me. Reminds me a lot of thalers from Bern Switzerland. Must be the bear.
