  1. You guys are good, but Baxuss was the first to spot it. Here is the original note: Baxuss, PM me your address and the SC is on the way.
  2. I found an interesting banknote last month with seven ones in the serial number. One digit short of the big money. Who can spot which of the ones in the serial numbers I altered in five minutes with Photoshop? First person to correctly identify the Photoshopped digit wins a decent Silver Certificate from my circulated pile. Free shipping too. You have a one in eight chance of getting it right. And I will post a photo of the untouched banknote after someone wins. Who has good eyes?
  3. Pat, that's a nice jetton and the story of how you met your wife really warmed my cold New York heart. Happy New Year!
  4. A picture really is worth a thousand words.
  5. Rod, I love the toning on that R-420a, wonderful condition as well. One of my favorite Swiss medals. And speaking of condition, that R-1900a just knocked my socks off.
  6. Welcome back Art and yes, that is a very nice hat. I intend to muddle on as well and see what turns up that I find interesting. Might pare down the collection a bit as well to make room in the safety deposit box.
  7. Nice jeton Ian! That die crack reminds me of the scene from The Omen when the priest is impaled by the church spire.
  8. Ian, the strike on the jeton at the top of this page is just amazing. Quite a find!
  9. I put the slab in an old (clean) sock and then place it lengthwise into my vise. Tighten until you hear it crack twice, remove and it should now open fairly easily. (The sock keeps the coin from rolling under the hot water heater if I tighten the vise too much.)
  10. I checked every Publix and even Walmart and found nothing. Had some amazing softshell crab though at Turtles on Siesta Key.
  11. Good eyes Nicolas! I think that doubling and other errors were fairly common at the time before the minting process became more sophisticated and dependable. Interesting coin nevertheless.
  12. There are still plenty of honest sellers left on eBay and that's where I look for and buy coins/medals/tokens these days. Much like Constanius I am loathe to sell my coins but when I do I usually use eBay or just sell on the forums so I am sure my coins go to a good home.
  13. I'll be in Florida next week and intend to check every CoinStar machine in every supermarket that my wife drags me to. I never find much here in New York.
  14. One of my friends recently inherited a collection of US coins from his father and included were several 1976 Bicentennial medals made by the Medallic Art Company (Danbury, CT). All were brass or silver (except for one marked 18k gold) and were intended to celebrate the New York State American Revolution. Here are the photos I took of the gold medal: The medal weighs 21.36 grams with a diameter of 38mm. This link shows the silver and brass versions but not the gold: http://numismatics.o...i,%20Americo%22 The printed ordering information that came with the medals claims that only 1000 were minted in gold and that the first 250 were given to officials from the original 13 states. As this is #251 it is apparently the first one sold to the general public. Any additional info would be appreciated, and if anyone owns the Johnson reference could you please look up the gold version. Thanks!
  15. Strange, as I have sold more than my share of coins to women on eBay.
  16. Looks to be at least MS62 with a beautiful reverse. I have the same date in a PCGS MS60 holder and your coin is much nicer. I would send it in to NGC to be certified, as there are many counterfeits floating around. If it come back MS63 go back to the dealer and ask him..... "Who's the man?"
  17. I never knew Chumlee's real name is Austin.
  18. If you collect Morgans you really have to have at least one from the Carson City mint in a GSA holder. The 1882, 1883 and 1884 dates are still affordable. http://morgandollars.net/gsa-morgan-dollars/
