  1. If a nice 1647 were to fall into my lap, fine. Otherwise I'm waiting for you to cave in Marianne...
  2. I'm good with not one but two 1638's. 1647 may just be a difficult date.
  3. If I didn't have children who want new cellphones and other expensive Christmas presents I would have bid on that. Beautiful medal.
  4. I'll post the template here or send it as an email attachment to anyone who wants it. Cointest. I like that... Happy Holidays to all!
  5. My son graduates from the University Of Southern California this June (he actually completes his courses in two weeks, six months early, saving me +/-$24000, thank you son, I'll spend that on coins) so the ONLY college football team spoken of in Chateau HiHo would be the USC Trojans (FIGHT ON!) against the Other Guys. And we usually beat the Other Guys... Your prize is packed and will ship first thing in the morning sbvenman. Two slabs of WWII silver, one from Denver, the other from San Francisco. From the Aunt Anna Collection. (Aunt Anna lived to be 102. She never married and every time we visited her she showed me her coin collection. My father and Aunt Anna were my introduction to coin collecting.) sbvenman, if resources allow please scan the coins and post the images here to prove that hiho is not entirely full of beans. Only half full... A HAPPY and SAFE holidays to all!
  6. WINNER! Yes, it graded NGC MS62. I was hoping for a MS64 but I'll accept the uber conservative grade. And thanks to everyone for their educated guesses, this contest was really a cleverly disguised study in grading. (sbvenman, please send me a private message or email with your mailing address. You silver awaits... )
  7. OK, second guesses are allowed, but no third guesses. Fair enough? And no one has got it yet...
  8. Nice photos Rod. Some day I'll go back to Switzerland and actually go to museums now that my kids are grown. To review, we know the medal is not: AU-58 MS-64 MS-65 MS-66 Someone is going to get this right...but who?
  9. No one has got it right yet. Obviously it's much easier as we go along. So the prize just went from a silver dollar to a silver half dollar or maybe two silver quarters. Maybe three...
  10. Same scale as coins, 1-70. One hint. It's not MS70... Please post your guesses here, no private messages please. First right answer wins. You only get one shot so make it count.
  11. First, background info and photos from a previous post... 1910 Bern Richter # 263a 28mm gold (13.8g) 400 struck Engraved by Holy Freres 250 VF/400 UNC (based on 2005 gold prices) Now the fun part, a contest. I finally took this off my nightstand and sent it off to NGC for certification with another gold coin. It's back on my nightstand. The first person who can guess the grade NGC assigned it wins a silver coin of my choice.
  12. Welcome to CoinPeople Jawandz! I'm still standing by with two 1638 Dutch Lion Daalders. I'm prepared... Until then we still need a 1647.
  13. I was hoping you would post those paper jeton photos in this thread Rod.
  14. Interesting items in your current Schutzenfest auction Rod. Paper jetons? I had no idea they even existed. All have bids too. Must be pretty rare... PS - I'm working a double shift on Halloween and hope you list a nice Holy Freres medal in the next auction that I can bid on with my overtime $$$...
  15. That 1656 silver ship jeton is quite nice Ian. Bonus having it struck in copper too...
  16. Nice taler Worldcoinguy, and I'm glad your photos are back...
  17. Rod, your photos have always been good but these last two are truly professional looking. The details you got on the Murten and the frosted cameo devices on the Munich, especially on the eagle's wings, are just amazing. I come here sometimes just to look at your photos. And with 22,751 views, so do a lot of other people...
  18. This is easily my favorite thread on the entire internet. And we are up to (down to?)... 1659. (Don't look at me, I'm out until 1638.)
  19. 1665 was a bad year to be English. No 1665, but I am ready with two 1638 Dutch Lion Dollars.
  20. Fantastic photo Rod, care to tell us how you got the reflections and shadows? Looks like something from a Heritage auction catalog...
  21. Thank you. Same can be said for the Saint Genevieive silver jeton. That's a beauty Ian! I just found out I won three Dutch Lion Daalders from Heritage, so I'll have not one but two coins for 1638, one from Utrecht, the another from West Friesland. These came from the Dr. Patrick Tan Collection and I'm excited to get them.
  22. Interesting French (?) token with a clear, legible date. Nice one Elle... Here is my 1666, a Netherlands gold ducat from Utrecht: NGC called this XF45 which I thought was a little conservative. Look at the details on the hands and knees. Those were the high points and the first to show wear. Personally I think it's at least an AU50 (or AU55) but I may be a little bit biased. This is tied with a 1707 as my favorite ducat. Any more 1666's?
  23. Great jetons Frank. Standing by with a nice 1666, but for now... Who has the 1667?
