  1. I have wanted one of these for a long time, finally I found one. This image is very close to the actual size of the piece, it is 21cm in diameter, or about 8.25" The shiney bronze looking thing is a USA cent for comparison of size.
  2. Katanga cross, one of the large primitive african coins. Came today, haven't opened, no time.
  3. I really would like one, but it is in line behind the 1945 25 Florin.
  4. The RCM floods the market with nice commemoratives, if they limited their offering I think they would be a better long term collectible. But if I look in past issues surely I will find something similar they issued two to three years ago. I have bought very specific items from the RCM, notably the Tulip issues, but as gifts, and not for me.
  5. I even have one from the Marotta Republic. 20 Ducats signed by the designer himself.
  6. You don't have one from Saor EireAnn, only Tiffybunny, 16D and the short snorter project do. The rest are either in Russia or in Saor EireAnn.
  7. At one time or another, over several visits to Netherlands, I have used all the notes issued for circulation. My favourite is the sunflower note 50 Florin.
  8. BTW I saw only a few 1996 coins in circulation, most of them even in 2001 were earlier dates, usually 1992 or lesser 1994. Varieties even in the same year with regards to the milling on the coins, and even the metal composition are common. With regards to mintmark, the mint set of 2001 states that the mintmark is of the National Bank of Ukraine, but this is not attached to a location. Prior to 1998 all Ukrainian coins were minted in a temporary facility in Lu'hansk. After 1998 all coins are minted in the new mint facility in Kyiv.
  9. Ask someone to whom Ukraine is near and dear: 1 and 2 Kopiika coins are very rarely seen in circulation, 5 K. is usually the smallest denomination coin in circulation, roughly a USA cent. I only ever managed to find a couple of the 1 K coins, and a few other 2 K coins. When I got them I asked for them from a change tray, instead of 5 K coins. Spelling, Ukrainian "i" is equivalent of russian "и" й is the same in both languages, which is equivalent of y in English. Special attention needs to be paid to the pronunciation of consonants which differ from each other, ie in Ukrainian "г" which is "g" in the west is most often pronounced "h". Now Ukraine, especially western and southern part, mandates that all documents be in Ukrainian and NOT Russian. This is a pain when you are used to Russian but not Ukrainian. Even in Ukraine it is very easy to go to regions where there are hardly any Ukrainian speakers, a lot of people in the "Red East" speak only Russian.
  10. She does need to get her son groomed for TV though.
  11. There are several political regions in Russia which refer to themselves as Republics, they have varying degrees of interpretation of this moniker however. Tatarstan views itself as an autonomous part of Russia, while some in the Republic of Chechenya would consider themselves completely independent, and occupied. In a similar vain, in Ukraine the Krim Republic, which encompasses what westerners know as the Crimea, has it's own President, and legislature but is an autonomous part of Ukraine. This was a political compromise, when some Russian speakers wanted to secede from Ukraine and become part of Russia again. Krim was only made a part of Ukraine in 1954, it was a *gift* from Russia.
  12. When you click on the news story from the local television station, the finders say they hope to get 2* face for the silver coins I'll give 5*
  13. Canadian Tall Ships Commem 2005 This was noted in their email today.
  14. Looks like I maybe keeping them for awhile I was hoping to sell them so we could go back to Ukraine, things with the government are very iffy right now. So I will write to Ms. Timoshenko and she what she will do.
  15. I would think Dr. Bunny would be able to do that now that she graduated to Moderator status
  16. I will have to dig out and scan, actually these are from De La Rue(I think), have Aleksandr Pushkin on them. And gobblygook cyrillic characters, they were test notes printed for Goznak.
  17. Coin issued under Mithradates, from Bosporan Kingdom near Krim peninsula of modern day Ukraine. Nicest I have seen of these. Usually the legends are illegible.
  18. Very very nice are both. I only have Russian test notes, or what purports to be them:)
  19. Never get tired of lovelies. One of Britains top 5 coins.
  20. This is my latest acquisition, a token from Andover, Hampshire. This piece was issued in 1666, and is rather unusual for a municipal token, they tended to be a bit larger, this is a rather smallish piece more like those issued by private individuals. This piece has an image of the arms of Andover, the lion and the tree, and the legend "Help O' Andever" notice the spelling of Andover. On the reverse is the image of a crippled man, something not quite as acceptable to be portrayed on a token in the 21st century, but not out of the ordinary in the 17th century, and the legend "For Y' Poores Benefit"
  21. Say Soviet coins and you get your party card back. Otherwise you will have been banished to the gulag. Believe me, I have seen it. You wouldn't like it.
  22. Right now ancient Sicilian coins, and also ancients from the Black Sea. As a side I collect 17th century English tokens. This is my latest acquisition, a token from Andover, Hampshire. 23. Can you save for me and send with the 10 Euro? TIA
