  1. Interesting coincidence. I do not have too many copper coins at this point, but I also have 2 Paul re-overstrikes from Brekke auction - lot 1515 and lot 1521
  2. Sigi, where did you originally find the 1726 kopek? In New York there were 2 1726 kopeks. One from 1959 M&M auction and the other one (ex-yours).
  3. The ones by Waechter are much more scarce than those by Ivanov. I am still to find one in copper.
  4. Funny enough I bought this book also (on Ebay). Comes from an auction house that specializes in Russian paper money. Once I receive it will report back.
  5. Back to those ANA Grading Standards: For MS and PF coins hairlines are mentioned starting with PF 67. For PF67 - A few hairlines may show under magnification. Hairlines get worse in the descending order of grade.
  6. The link to an article on hairlines from NGC site: http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?NewsletterNewsArticleID=511
  7. I do not think Grading Standards refer to hairlines which are part of the minting process. From the book: caused by cleaning or polishing.
  8. Let's take a look at the ANA Grading Standards for PF61: Hairlines: Extensive. I find this one interesting: Eye Appeal: Unattractive
  9. I remember seeing something similar in the past, also related to Napoleonic era.
  10. Someone ruined perfectly nice coin If someone wants to see the pdf of the auction, it is now on http://russian-medals.net/
  11. Seems to be struck slightly off center.
  12. Adjustment marks are a little annoying...
  13. Looks like these real dealers did not consult with each other , which produced large quantity of some otherwise very nice and desirable coin types...
  14. Well, since you want me to, I can tell - it is organized by real dealers.
  15. In the mean time you can check Heritage floor session. The Internet only session looks pretty good too: http://coins.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=51+792+4294951117+706&chkNotSold=0&Ne=304
  16. Real investor does not know how to grade a raw coin. Though there are some that could, but very few. They either come from numismatic family or worked in the numismatic trade for a while.
  17. If one looks into grading standards, then it becomes apparent that MS 60 is a horrible grade for an UNC coin - terrible eye appeal, bad color, many bag marks, etc. Where AU58 could be a beautiful coin, but with just slight rubbing to the highest points of the design. Real investor should not touch anything below MS64.
  18. Seems to be "thank you for the ruble that was bringing me happiness". Interesting that it does not say "good luck", but "happiness"
  19. Yes, the larger medal is in Diakov. And, you guessed it, it is 380.1. But, Diakov lists it at 65mm. Both have the same rarity - R1. I think the larger one is more scarce.
  20. Hard to tell from this scan. A photo would be better. But certainly the price does not seem low. 1915 is not as rare as old catalogs suggest.
  21. I do not think NGC let's you save photos from their site. It is interesting that PCGS does.
