Entry for division 3: 1701-1800

Recommended Posts

Entry for this division:

1799 DRAPED BUST EAGLE (Heraldic Eagle) (Small Stars Obverse, BD-8, R.5.) NGC AU-50

This rare variety is attributed by the evenly spaced 17 in the date, but tilted far right, especially the 7, which is also higher than the 1; the point of star 12 touching the upper beak and also the scroll with two points, and star 13 touching the scroll. BD estimates 44-55 known pieces. Peach-gold surfaces display splashes of purplish coloration, especially on the reverse, giving this coin the classic "old gold" look. The design elements show fairly good definition, except for coalescence of some of the horizontal lines in the shield. Light to moderate marks, a bit more so on the obverse.
