The assayer letter is an "F" and that symbol is the Segovia mintmark (a kind of stylized arches from the city famous aqueduct: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqueduct_of_Segovia , which is also represented in their COA). Jose

I've seen copies of the Sol and 1/2 Sol but none of the smaller coins (1/5 Sol, 1 Din., 1/2 Din.) and none of the fakes were silver. I have a typeset of those and you really should go for high quality, esp. in 1897/1898 and onward dated coins. Jose

Not really, the given values are 10 US$ for the copper Ryal and 20 US$ for the Girsh, those prices seem to be somewhat random but could have been issue prices. Jose
-
They're both modern fantasies, the Bruce (unusual world coins) references are: XPn1 for the Saudi Girsh and X1 for the Hejaz Ryal Jose

Excellent examples, thanks for showing ccg! Definitely true, and the larger the coin the worse it is, 200 and 500 Reis can be found in "original" condition but 1000 and 2000 Reis are almost always found (harshly) cleaned. BTW, i remembered that i have this one (it would be fun if they made them in Denver): Jose

Hong Kong 1923 1 cent over China 10 cash?
josemartins replied to gxseries's topic in World Coin Forum
The strike is really soft on that one. When did the empire 10 cash coins were demonetized in China (or at least in Guangdong)? I think maybe it was an attempt by someone to transform obsolete coins (the "dragon" 10 cash) into currency (the HK cent), in this case one should sould be able to purchase the "coin planchets" at a steep discount, all you need was to fabricate the dies to have a profit... A Kansu mint YSK dollar struck over a 1911 Y#31 imperial dragon dollar? (BTW, never struck in Kansu if i'm not mistaken) The inside out flatness (indicating a soft strike rather than wear) and the weirdest general shoulder insignia i've seen on a YSK dollar would have made me a bit suspicious. Jose

It's the second one in the "German States" listing: Anhalt-Bernburg KM# 57 Jose

..in fact that's a bit incomplete (as i was writing from memory), in fact all coins issued by the "German East Africa Company" until 1902 where issued without mintmark, all later government issues were issued with mintmarks (including the obsidional 1916 coins). Kiau Chau was administered by the "Imperial Naval Office" (hence the anchor in the coin), so it probably followed the practice of not using mintmarks in colonial German coins that were not under government direct control. Here's a link to an excellent article (pdf - 5 mb): FILE

Congratulations! I know you were searching one for some time. It looks genuine, the wheight should be 3,0 grams, so 2,9 grams in a 0,1g scale is OK. The fake one on Weege's book have minor dubling in some letters, the "hou" in "kiautshou" is underlined and the surface is more concave. They were struck in Berlin (no mintmark like the 1890 Pesa from German East Africa) and they are hard to locate at a reasonable price, but they're usually found in high grade (my 10 cents is virtually UNC but with an odd patina, probably came from the "Cormorant hoard"). 99.99% sure is a Bhutan 1/2 Rupee KM# 8.2 - with a dot on center inscription. ...and i'm sure it wasn't me you've bought the coin(s) from, i don't sell a gold "Imperial" for well over a year and if you mean modern base metal ones, i'm not a commemorative/NCLT guy. Jose
-
Looks like a Bhutan Deb (1/2 Rupee)... Jose
-
I actually taught you had them..., and yes, they are cheap (around 1 Euro a piece), don't have any spares but those coins are readily available from dealers, just send me a PM if you're interested. Jose
-
Not that hard, expensive tough... Does "commems" counts? Jose
-
...kind of... It's a copper Ceitil (1/6 of a Real) of D. Manuel I (1495-1521), altough i can't read the legend very well, you should check better if it isn't a hybrid coin (Manuel I on one side, Joao III on the other) because those "two monarchs" coins are scarce. Jose

1996 Spain uncirculated mint set pricing
josemartins replied to Blackhawk's topic in World Coin Forum
Try: www.ebay.es or www.todocoleccion.net ...and search for "FNMT 1996", it seems that between 40/50 Euro is the usual asked price for those. Jose -
Getting a "Tonkin" price guide will help you out: Tonkin ...the guide (1818-2008, the "book" timeline is from 1521 to 2008) should be enough for you, there's also some ads of swedish dealers in it that could be useful. Norwegian dealers are also a good bet to find the specific coins you are looking for. Jose
