Art1.2
Congrats on that 1502 Tommy. A tough find. Now 1501??? WOW!
thedeadpoint
Great coin! But I don't see the "1502". Looks more like a "1702" to me but seeing the rest of the design and the way it is minted, I don't doubt you. How do you authenticate these?
tommyd
I actually got that particular coin from a very respectable German coin company, directly from Germany complete with an invoice written in German!
thedeadpoint
"Authenticate" was the wrong word to use. Maybe I mean "attribute". I don't doubt the authenticity - just wondering what resources you (or others) use to identify the coin. Like is there a book that lists the coin in Redbook style? tommyd
Probably is, but the info from their website always matches what I Google each time I do business with them..
Benz Gemz
The 7 is a medieval form of a 5, confusing isn't it! Going to get worse as we go back. Actually it is going to be very difficult very soon! I'm still looking for a 1501, but I have a 1500 on hand. I know dated coins were struck in the 1400s, but there are no easy series like the Hungarian denars to carry us along. Many of the older ones are actually listed in a book I have on early dated coins with descriptions like "6 examples known, 4 in museums". thedeadpoint
This is all incredible. Easily the best "collection" by date on the internet. Let's break 1500!
