Don't forget that these coins finish tomorrow!
-
Thanks, Art. Good luck with the bids!
There are still two scarce Roman issues at less than £1!
-
Sorry for your loss, Dave. That's a wonderful photograph of a great creature.
-
Hammered, Roman and milled coins just listed - please have a look by clicking here.

Definitely looks like a fake. The details appear too sharp and 'pen like' and the join line on the edge is a tell-tale sign of a cast replica.

An amazing piece of history, Pat!

It doesn't seem as if a photo was uploaded. If blank on one side it's most likely not a coin.

Snap!
Another medal of the South Kensington International Exhibition 1862:
We have a third on the forum, here.

Nice Henry VI Annulet Issue groat of Calais!
Welcome to the forum.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
You can find out more about your token here. It commemorates/celebrates the South Kensington International Exhibition 1862. As for value, it's in very poor condition so I do not think we are talking any monetary value, but more historical value relating to an important event.

Can you see any trace of an O in the legend that's meant to read ONE PENNY? From the photos it looks so worn that the letter is missing...

Was walking thru the flea market today and came across a baggy of recent coinage for $1. The coins were very common so from a collectors standpoint was of little value. However, what I did see in there was a British post decimal pound, three Canadian quarters, a recent Thai Baht, and a recent Danish 25 ore, all coins still considered legal tender. While I will always favor historic coins, I am the type of person who whenever he goes to a 5 for a dollar or 10 for a dollar bin and see anything post decimal British, Canadian, post dollar Australian, Japanese, or Euro will get it because I do dabble a little bit in foreign currency investing and will always jump at the chance to do a free currency exchange. Anyone else here do this?
A $ for a £ and other coins? Bargain!

The original photographs you posted make me think of Saxby's Coins and their conveniently 'mis-described' or 'unknown' coins...

Define natural(?).
As in a natural process associated with the 'normal' handling and storing of a coin as opposed to specific chemicals or processes deliberately applied to a coin to achieve such an aesthetic. I cannot recall ever having seen one such as this that was a result of processes that one would assume to have taken place in the hands of a dealer or collector, that is all.
Glad to hear you're in it for the long haul and have no intention of selling it. It's well photographed, too.
-
Interesting toning, is it natural?
-
A very clear example, Jeff! Thanks for sharing.
very nice error coin
Is this coin technically an error? I always assumed it was just the mint's way of recycling a broken die.

I know...it was actually me that bought the eBay listing for 99p and sold just the Co-Op token for £34!!!!
Nicely done!

Good to see you back, Johnny 1989!

Is an 8d Brightside & Carbrook Co-Op token worth much,
A quick Google search seems to suggest it's fairly worthless. A job-lot of tokens here did not even realise £1 and it had one in.

I have just sold 122 lots over the past few weeks on eBay with the majority going abroad. Out of those 122 I have had problems with one transaction - a mint set going to Singapore which has been lost by the postal service. Even then, the buyer was very understanding and it was easy to resolve.
Yes, it can be a stress. Yes, it can be expensive. But there are few places where you're guaranteed such footfall and, more often than not, you will get close to market value if you do your homework.

Thanks for such a swift reply, I hadn't spotted that You Tube ad!
Found my childhood banknote collection in my parents attic at the weekend and keen to restart.
Tom
Good luck, Tom!
