A simple Google search of "Israeli prutah" brings up many results, e.g.: http://biblicalmites.com/prutah-widow-s-mite-pr249.html
They are often called Widow's Mites.

Thank you for all your wishes, CoinPeople.
And pcunix, thanks, I think...?

Happy birthday, Matthew!!

This one sold for $37 at Heritage in November 2013.

Wonderful pictures, Pat!
I know Art will definitely appreciate these, too.

More coins added including Canadian gold, silver & proof sets.

It's free. A junior hacksaw did the trick.

I've only gone and bought myself a slabbed coin. I must admit I was intrigued by how a hammered coin would appear slabbed, as I've never seen one in person. But I did buy it for the coin and so I'm now contemplating the best method of breaking the coin out, especially as the NNC do not seem to be as respected as other TPGs.
I'm thinking of using a small hacksaw to open the slab but would welcome any suggestions.

Of course I'll be watching the original and best type of football!
Many of my friends are collecting the stickers too.

I suspect this isn't rare at all.
The Euro cent is copper plated, if I'm not mistaken, and so a common experiment done by schoolchildren to make them appear gold would be the answer, involving zinc. Here's a link showing how, but with other coins that are copper-plated. As for worth, I'd guess just one Euro cent, unfortunately.

A huge mark up on the spot price and, in my opinion, another gimmick from the RM.

Welcome to the forum.

As for estimate of worth, these can be picked up for £1.

I did search for the dreaded WRL but failed to spot it.(still can't!) But at my age sight is a luxury!

Unfortunately this is a modern replica.
It has the letters WRL stamped under the portrait which stand for Westair Reproductions Limited.

Try a hosting site such as tinypic.com and then paste the image URL in a post using the Image tab, located just beneath the smiley face on the post panel.

Do you have an image of the reverse?

Saxby's...

Sorry for the months late reply:
The "reverse" on that Merriman is insane. I can't imagine the number of hours it takes to carve something so detailed, and the patience!
No need to apologise, Burks!
Yes, tell me about it. The reverse is incredible, even more so in hand. To think that the engraver of the dies has managed to depict a whole building in miniature (bottom panel on reverse) with such detail is amazing - true skill!

Definitely well travelled!
Most likely from what is modern day Iran and suspected to have been brought up through the Russian river systems and then made its way across northern Europe.

This just arrived. It's a 9th/10th century Arabic dirham that's been used as hacksilver in Yorkshire (in the north of England) by the Vikings.
United kingdom 1998 Queen elizabeth II 2 pounds coin with extra dot variety on obverse side there?

What are these opinions?
From my experience most UK collectors wouldn't bat an eyelid at this as the quality of the Royal Mint is so poor that it's exceptionally common for chips/clods/blocked dies, etc. to occur.
