Do you have any images?

Nice to see you back, Vfox!
I really do like that 8 reales piece.
-
Welcome!
The first is a 1745 sixpence or shilling, depending upon diameter, of George II. It was minted using silver plundered from the French just off the coast at Lima, Peru, hence the Lima under his bust. Here's a link to a similar one that has been sold.
The second is a Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medallion from 1897. Again, its value depends on size. Here's a link to a similar one that has been sold.

How are the photos coming along?

As also seen here.

The so called expert challenged me to explain why they are counterfeit.
I suspect that this could be a tactic to help the fraudster improve their fakes for next time...

this wee coin is much lighter in weight to the common copper ones..the silver has worn off..and underneath it's a duller silver colour ?
What does it weigh (if you have accurate scales)? It is very worn, so that might explain some of it, if it was worn and then plated.
Thank you Olde wordly ( have you got a shorter name I could use) ha ha x
Clive.

Art's quite right.
It appears to be either for aesthetic reasons or, very commonly, a school experiment: http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/practical-chemistry/turning-copper-coins-silver-and-gold

Best of luck!

Depends what sort of coins we're talking about.
If you've got UK coins I'd suggest starting a PhotoBucket account and then posting the images you've uploaded here.

As to the traffic cone on the Duke's head, I am somewhat bemused, he was a soldier who tirelessly fought against the French during the Napoleonic Wars, helping to free Portugal & Spain directly & assisting the other European powers in finally freeing Europe from Bonaparte's clutches by defeating the French at Waterloo, later becoming a leading statesman, so to me it just seems to be a mark of disrespect for someone so undeserving of it. Perhaps you could throw some light on the reason why?
Many statues are prone to the petty actions of drunkards on a Friday or Saturday night and I've seen many traffic cones on heads the next morning. However, I must agree, to put this on a medal is poor taste and undeserved -- I'm not quite sure what the designer/engraver was thinking... A shame.

Many people I have known in numismatic business hate it, hobbies and careers really shouldn't cross paths.
It's important to note, TG, that this doesn't happen to everyone. Many dealers I know are also collectors so I suspect this might differ from country to country or even the coins being collected.

Welcome to the forum.

That's a lot of coins, Maggie!
It's a friendly bunch of people here so don't worry -- I'm sure there will be members able to assist.

Is it not this one, then?

This is definitely post-mint and not an official stamp of any sort.
Many of these are the result of people testing out tools or implements, either out of boredom or with the aim of 'decorating' the coin.

The August List has just been published.
With coins ranging from Cnut to George III it's well worth a look - http://www.historiccoinage.com/newadditions.php
Dozens of coins have also had their price reduced across all categories, so please be sure to peruse the sections to see if anything appeals.

Found out the coin #2 isn't Austrian
But an Italian State - Lombardy-Venetia (early 1820s)
He was Emperor of Austria, hence the title including the word Austria being used on the coin. Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor but also Franz I, the first Emperor of Austria.

I got a new (2009) penny that looks as if it's been coated by one of those school chemistry experiments, so it appears brass. Might as well keep it for the sake of a penny.

Back from vacation and heading back to work tomorrow
I had a marvelous time. I'm still assembling photos. Bug me over the next week or two and I'll post them.
I'm just checking coinpeople tonight but will be more active (as usual) weeknights this week. Expect more tales from me then!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I'm eagerly awaiting seeing your snaps.

#1 - No. Someone's put it in a vice to make an impression.
#2 - A Google search of the visible legend of FRANCISCVS I brings up results for Franciscus I -- 18th/19th century Austrian silver.

Yep, definitely a dirham.
A browse through these pages should give you some more idea on what you have: http://islamiccoins.ancients.info/

Yep, as Kev says, it's a halfcrown. Many coins from this period do not have a denomination stated as it's mainly done by size and reverse design.
