I don't have a clue and no not typical toning but anything is possible. I have a Proof Quarter and a proof dime with similar toning so my guess would be stored in some type of tissue paper or coin envelope like folks keep keys in but this is purley speculation Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

28Plain Posted April 24, 2006 Report Share Posted April 24, 2006 I had an AU '17 mercury dime that was almost as bright purple a few years back. Must be from some sort of paper contact, since paper does sometimes have sulphur , among other trace elements in its makeup. I'm a toned coin fan too.
