gxseries
Super damaged coin lot, this is the first one: 1720 ruble, mintmaster K. Damaged so it was sold very cheaply
gxseries
Haven't been updating for a long time but this is one nice coin from Jose: Will upload the other Brazilian coin when I got the time. gxseries
Another addition to my 1834 type set: Not in a decent grade but I figured I should get one before prices go rocket high. And Marco's lot has arrived - many thanks! Here is a list: -1 Kopek 1874 -1 Kopek 1897 -1 Kopek 1914 -1 Kopek 1939 -2 Kopeks 1811 -2 Kopeks 1862 -2 Kopeks 1868 -2 Kopeks 1904 -2 Kopeks 1905 -2 Kopeks 1905 -2 Kopeks 1936 -5 Kopeks 1930 -5 Kopeks 1931 -3 Kopeks 1934 -5 Kopeks 1911(silver) -10 Kopeks 1901 -10 Kopeks 1903 -10 Kopeks 1905 -10 Kopeks 1906 -10 Kopeks 1909 -10 Kopeks 1916 -10 Kopeks 1950 -15 Kopeks 1916 -15 Kopeks 1931 Nothing too particularly interesting but I didn't have any of the earlier Soviet coinage of the 1,2,3,5 kopeks and the 15 kopeks is from the Osaka mint! Will post pictures when I got the time. Thank you Marco.
gxseries
Another huge batch of Soviet proof coins. I don't know if these are too common or what but I doubt it. And this is Marco's lot that came in:

akdrv
Nice loot. Are these real proofs or proof-like unc? What's the story behind them? I'm guessing that if these were real proofs you wouldn't stack them up like that.
Scottishmoney
Nice, I am jealous
gxseries
Thanks art. akdrv, I honestly have no idea what is going on. I am assuming that these coins were long ago cracked out from mint sets and hence ended up to be in this pile. Shocking as it may seem to but I guess about 30 mintsets have at least been cracked out. (or must be ripped out from those plastic mint set) Nevertheless here are two images to compare: The first one is a 1961 ruble from a specimen set that I have, that I believe is strictly UNC. The next one is one of the suspected "proof" rubles for illustration: I believe I can see about 2-3 inches of reflection in there although the photograph isn't too good in what I took. Does that look like proof or that's still a prooflike? Nevertheless, I don't believe circulated coins are ever minted in such quality.
thedeadpoint
With the reflection apparatus as shown, is that how the grading companies assess proof quality, i.e. cameo vs deep cameo vs ultra deep cameo vs really really good looking cameo ? Burks
With the reflection apparatus as shown, is that how the grading companies assess proof quality, i.e. cameo vs deep cameo vs ultra deep cameo vs really really good looking cameo ? http://members.aol.com/dcwehler/faq.htm Cameo refers to the difference between the fields of the coin and the device. The link above explains it pretty well. Something for reflection, like GX posted, is used a lot for Morgan Dollars. That can help determine prooflike and deep-mirror prooflike coins. Lostdutchman explained it once I believe. BTW GX: That certainly looks to be a proof but KM doesn't list a proof. Have you tried checking for Soviet/Russian coin specialists? gxseries
Never know about that Burks. Seems like it's likely to be at least prooflike. Now the forum has been a bit unstable or it might be my laptop that is causing issues for me not to load this site from time to time. Got a few Soviet mintsets. 1967 (non commemorative set), 1968, 1969, 1973 (Yes, 1973!), 1988 and a Russian (probably non-official) 1992 set. Will upload the 1973 mintset pictures later. One of the rarer semi key date coin is in the mintset which makes it quite pricy these days.

gxseries
I am way behind in cataloging my coins as I am doing some packing. Not fun to pack while trying to catalogue my new incoming coins - it's just not doable! As well as, I'm trying to do some sort of "digital" cataloging to see what kind of Russian coins that I have by using Uzdenikov's plates. Now that's something to look out for when I finish it. I recently got a kilo of Finnish and a kilo of Romanian coins. They are pretty neat except having plenty of 1 pennia aren't too fun Also, here is a highlight of my catch - Korea Year 10 1906 1/2 won Damaged but if you can find one without such bent and damage mark, it's easily a 3 figure coin! It's pretty tough!
Art
That's a nice catch. -- 1906 1/2 won. Too bad it's got that cut. I wonder if it was to determine authenticity?
gxseries
Art, perhaps it indeed was a test to check if it contained real silver. There are too many counterfeits of this coin. A darn shame but it didn't cost too much. I'm already way out of date with this updating list, and I'm still one month or more behind what I have bought as I have to move and pack at the same time. A good chance to get rid of what I don't need really though. This is a coin that came from my friend as a Xmas gift and I finally found it from the pile of mess. Nice Dutch coin 50 years ago. Some more Russian coins: Spitzbergen mint set. Dont' see it too often. And finally one from China, Xinjiang.

gxseries
Jose sent me a shocker coin that I was stunned (still am) for a long time: Not only does it still have some red lusture but also neat overdate 3 over 1 AND the reverse is struck on a brockage!!! ;) Many thanks!!! gxseries
Got a couple of nice UN coins from Russia and China that commamorates the 50th Anniversary of the UN as well as a nice aluminum coin from see323 By the way, did I mention that Japanese old style 5 yen coins in UNC is quite difficult to find? Both are from Showa 26, 1951. Will post pictures tomorrow.
gxseries
Guess I'm a bit too outdated at the moment This is one of the scarcer Korean coin that I have obtained recently: Korea 1888 10 mun Likely to be cleaned in the past but it's still very difficult to find. It has a nice die crack at the year to go with it.
gxseries
A bit slow these days but I found a great 5 sen coin to fit in my Japanese coin type set. Not easy to find really I swear. Unfortunately it's not related to the PCI contest though - it's still not here yet
Scottishmoney
The 5 sen in cupro-nickel is one I have never seen either. From this era you see lots of rin, sen, etc.
