crystalk64
Your going to have to explain this MULE to me as I don't see anything out of the ordinary on this coin? Would appreciate a little more detail?
LostDutchman
a mule is when dies from different coins such as a dime and cent are used on one coin .....the coin would have a dime front and a cent reverse or vice versa....this just happens to be one from across the pond.. SlavicScott
Your going to have to explain this MULE to me as I don't see anything out of the ordinary on this coin? Would appreciate a little more detail? In 1860, the Tower Mint (Royal Mint) switched from pure copper minors (¼, ½, 1 penny) to bronze pieces, which were a little smaller, and the date was moved to the reverse, instead of being under the monarch. To accomodate the change-over, large numbers of each denomination were minted, using several dies. Sometime early in the minting process, they changed master dies, creating two distinct "types". One set of these dies had a "toothed" border [TB], which have elongated ridges, attached to the rim (see obverse image of Blackhawk's coin), while the other set of dies had a "beaded" border [bB], which were round dots, away from the rim (see reverse image). These dies were not "co-mingled" intentially, so any combination of TB/BB or BB/TB are considered to be mules, anc command a hefty premium.
