Swiss Shooting Medals

Recommended Posts

Thanks.

When I originally found out about this R239c a year ago, I was intrigued to say the least. I knew I would like to have it and tried to make the purchase but the deal did not transpire right away; now a year later I am the proud owner. I am more than happy and this rare and beautiful schützenfest medal is a welcome addition to my collection.

I still remember the day this surfaced last year, and as much as I wanted it for my collection it really is WAY out of my price range. I hoped it would land in a Moore collection and I see it has.

Congratulations Rod on an uber-rare find!

I definitely see the attempt (pretty good though) to mimic thegorgeous designs of the turn of the century.

All amazing and fantastic. thank you SO much for sharing.

I will not collect Swiss Shooting Medals. I cannot compete with those of you posting here. I am not worthy.

Here they are. Too much detail to place in the thread yet many here are under 500 minted. Feel free to ask should you have any specific interest. More detail in my sigline set.

1910 Bern (R-263a) GOLD medal spotted on eBay.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160603013907&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Way overpriced and (unless it's just a very bad scan) not only cleaned but the obverse has been polished to the extent that many details are missing.

Nevertheless, if you have the money and want a gold Bern, this is your chance. Make him an offer.

Feel free to use this photo of mine to compare the obverse details.....

Hi Kim,

Your Bern medal is beautiful and I would say that the medal presently on eBay can't compare to yours.

The one on the bay in some respects looks similar... ;)

Why would someone selling something that expensive post such poor pics, mind even with the poor pics you can tell it is in a very poor condition. From those pics I do not think anyone could even be sure that it is the genuine article.

Why no enlargements or zoom? Even people selling cheap medals for a few dollars normally show enlargements.

"Excellent condition with no scratches or dents. It might have been cleaned at one time" is obviously a joke! There is no fine detail left, judging by the pics posted that is.

Looked at one of his cheap coins, yes you guessed it, for that he supplies Zoom & an enlargement, & you can see what the coin is like!!!

Check the pics for this item

That's because your dad helped me get my medal directly from an honest Swiss seller. I still can't believe I own it!

My boss went on his honeymoon last month with his new wife and I worked 12 consecutive days. As a reward I bought this after thinking about it for two months.

1902 Fleurier (Neuchatel)

R-986a

45mm - Silver

Bernard Ulysse Jacot

1902Neuchatel986a-1.jpg

1902Neuchatel986a-2.jpg

1902Neuchatel986a-3.jpg

The medal is absolutely perfect and fully deserves the MS-67 grade. The sheer size and high relief almost qualify this as sculpture, especially the obverse.

The scratches seen on both sides are on the holder, not the medal. You would think that a $400 certified coin would ship inside a plastic slab protector before it is put into a cardboard Safe-T-Mailer. You would be wrong. When are coin dealers going to understand that the glue on the inside of the Safe-T-Mailers is gritty and toxic to the surface of NGC slabs? If I sell a slabbed coin it ships in a slab protector and in a clean ziplock. I wish (insert names of several major auction companies and coin dealers here) would take more care in shipping their coins. Fire the kid in shipping and give the job to an old guy who will treat every coin as if it were his own.

Ok, end of rant. I love the medal but find the holder most annoying. But there are two ice cold pale ales in the fridge and that will cheer me up... =)

1898 SWISS SHOOTING R-1029c, AR, 45mm NIDWALDEN - ENNET FEST PF 64 CA

Resized to 97% (was 1024 x 393) - Click image to enlargeDSCN9408-horz.jpg

I find it curious that NGC would grade this medal proof when if they did some research they would find that schützenfest medals were not minted in what we today call proof dies. It may look like proof; ”Proof Like” perhaps but not proof, the medal is Mint State. NGC can grade but it is too bad they don't have the global knowledge of what they are grading...I suppose it falls under some criteria that NGC calls proof, I not sure. Nevertheless, the medal itself is beautiful and the engraving is wonderful!
