UPDATED: There are a few more links below, but I thought this link was a good summary link because it kind of sums up the donations and gives links to different stories of gold coin donations: http://www.coinnews.net/2007/12/24/more-th...r-kettles-3900/ One last late link: http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2008/0...a1496329653.txt Added 1/15/08 Salvation Army passed last years goal! http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs...5/NEWS/80115068
moneydog
This day and time people aren't as generous as they used to be but there are still some good people out there with enough money to do that. And it is a big help to those who need it I wish more would do it. It is mostly middle class that do it the rich won't do it unless they can get a recept to take it off there taxes. Charity means Love given freely not for a tax recept

Scottishmoney
You know, when and if I could find a cheery and personable bell ringer, I would be quite tempted to do such a thing, albeit anonymously as I could care less for the publicity of it. The problem is, at least in our area, they are hiring grumpy, talk on cell phones and make out with their boyfriends etc in the front entrances of the store type losers which are an incredibly poor reflection of an organisation which does much good. thedeadpoint
Didn't this happen last year?
Brett
It happens almost every year and has for a while. It's good to see people give anonymous donations like this.
Scottishmoney
It wouldn't get the press like the gold coins, but would probably be more convenient and less troublesome for all if you just slipped a small envelope in the kettle with $800 in hundred dollar bills. flbandit
Hmm, could be a good use for all those Dollar coins that don't seem to be circulating.
Nightwing
Hmm, could be a good use for all those Dollar coins that don't seem to be circulating. I almost posted this before! If you think about it it could actually help out the Salvation Army people because it would weigh down their kettles and fool crooks into thinking their only quarters. Maybe we should start thinking for next year ways in which we can uniquely donate to charity. (Unique meaning not the norm) *Oh, and I put almost an entire rolls worth of dollar coins into circulation tonight for holiday shopping!
