Mark Stilson
Check here to see if you can make a positive ID. Check the 18, 18A, and 20 as possibilities.

Mark Stilson
The VAM 20 looks like a late die state match for it. Look at the bottom picture.
Corina
Ok, So the bottom pic seems to match my second pic of the coin i'll put it simple "is this morgan a VAM? and if so what excat type of VAM" I have maybes, but those aren't going to help me much in trying to figure out the coin and the value
Mark Stilson
Ok, So the bottom pic seems to match my second pic of the coin i'll put it simple "is this morgan a VAM? and if so what excat type of VAM" I have maybes, but those aren't going to help me much in trying to figure out the coin and the value Best answer I can is a maybe. But yes it should be a vam 20. The VAM 18A was assumed to be a different coin. But it appears it may a later die state of this coin (The crack got bigger later on.) a VAM 20. (This has not yet been confirmed by Leroy Van Allen. ) The bottom two pictures on the vam 20 page are ones I took of one of my coins. They may end up deleting the vam 18 as a valid vam and calling them all vam 20's. For this to happen Leroy Van Allen would have to review my coin and do the revision. BTW VAM comes from the last names of the authors on a book categorizing morgan dollar varieties. Leroy Van Allen and A. George Mallis. As to value since this is not a top 100 or a hot 50 vam. Its pretty much the same price as a normal 1899-O. ( I really wish it was worth more I have two. )
