T.Hoiland auction #106 (Russia 1)

I personally think that the prices are spinning way out of reach of an ordinary person. I bid strongly on about 20 coins, but only won 2. I was an underbidder on 9 or 10 coins. I think, if I were present at the auction, I would win more coins. But not much. On some I was overbid by 100%! I think this is a new price level, for which I am simply not ready yet. Thankfully, I actively purchased copper coins for the past three years and was able to put together a number of rare coins. I would not be able to do so today.

How did you do?

BKB, I agree with you. I waited too long to bid and internet bidding had already closed when I tried to enter my bids. Since I could not bid, I got nothing.

However, it would not have made any difference if I had, because I would have been overbid anyway.

The prices realized are extremely strong. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the result for the grivna plate (lot 2092). :ninja:

If I was planning to sell, this would make me very excited. But as someone still building my collection and trying to add new coins to it, this means I can buy very little which is hardly something to celebrate. ;)

Wow. It's insane. What I found interesting is that the auctioneer has done their best in identifying unusual pieces of the copper coins, like overstrikes, overdates etc, which I think they did an excellent job which might have resulted to the strong final bidding price.

However, I was actually puzzled over why some error coins didn't sell as strong as the others. I am about to say that some of the error coins sold are actually a bargain.

Maybe it is early and I am misreading the hammer prices? 1 dollar to 5.8 DKK / 1 Euro to 7.45 DKK? The prices seem quite inflated.

No, you are reading them correctly.

Prices shown are the hammer price.

There is an additional 20% buyer's fee, 25% if delivered within the European Union because of VAT (tax).

The prices realized are amazing, even shocking.

If I could bring prices like that, I would consider selling the remaining roubles I have. While I will always love Russian numismatics, the prices could nicely fund some other numismatic pursuits. My biggest fear would be a deep regret the week after they are gone.

I have a handful of Nicholas II roubles on eBay ending tomorrow. All of the coins were cleaned (and the auctions are accurately described as such), but still have good eye appeal. The prices are at levels I was not anticipating.

for example.

Yes the rare stuff was nuts but there were nice coins to be found at normal prices.

Congrats! These prices are much more in line with what I would have expected.

Dialers from Russia won this GRIVNA.

Hi, I bade pretty high on 5 coins (XF or better), but got nothing. It is the lower grade coins that went at reasonable prices, sometimes even at low prices. See for example the truly rare Siberia 10kop1772KM which cost way below $100 all included.

If I only could love lower than XF !!!
