    Advice

That would be correct. It's quite modern (1980s).
  2. Egypt 1944 2 piastres. It's always been one of my favourite coins. King Farouk was one of the leading collectors of his age, and IIRC, the owner of the 1933 double eagle.
  3. Yes, the 1981 5f is a key date. Modern Chinese coinage is generally hard to part a value on - easiest way to find out is to put it on ebay.
  4. Try resizing the photo/scan to a smaller size and you should be able to upload.
  5. I am not a specialist in English hammered coinage by any means (quite a greenhorn, actually), but I'm inclined to say also it's a copy on the basis of the flan / planchet appears to be too perfectly round. Also, the attribution which I presume you were provided is also incorrect - London should be Civitas London or Civitas Londinium if I remember correctly. The mint name appears to be Eboraci, which I presume is York.
  6. IIRC, if a mintmark is denoted in brackets in the SCWC listing, it does not actually appear on the coin.
  7. Details on the "1 yen" side are way off - especially the right side of the wreath and the beading / denticles. Modern fake, and an easy call at that.
  8. Are there numbers to the lower right of the Church? Are there any inscriptions on the edge?
  9. Davebob, When Frank says "restruck" he is not referring to a later copy, but rather, that the coins of the type were usually struck over older coins instead of on new, blank planchets.

    Commemoratives

I only collect 25c / quarters, and it's getting a bit out of hand. I mean, there's over 100 different types that can be encountered in circulation between the two countries.
  11. I'd say F. Although the requirements for older coins is looser, some TPGs may consider it to be too damaged to be slabbed.
  12. For 1c-50c, both US and Ecuadorian coins are used. The $1 is usually the Sac. dollar, though I believe they've also been bringing in presidential dollars of late. $1s bills IIRC are not used much. I guess it's kind of like the 5DM bill in pre-2000 Germany, where the coin was preferred. Small change seems to be hoarded for some reason, though, and having rolls of quarters and $1s goes a long way.
  13. If you can find a copy of the old Zoell catalogues they had many die cracks, etc. listed. Some are now listed in Charlton.
