  1. Just curious: here we are in March, 2015, seven months after IMIS made his prediction. Have many of the Sincona 19 lots appeared for sale at discounted prices?

To that fact, I just noticed something on M-DV. In October of 2012 (1st sale of the Sincona collection?) this coin went for $535.

It looks like this coin was resold just a month later in (Nonmember 18th 2012, Imperial Auction House Auction 23 Lot 210), only this time it was graded as Proof not just UNC, and was sold for $946

  2. Hi Alex and Eugene, thank you for showing the Siberian 1767 ten kopeks. Nice ones. The 1767 lettered edge is lacking with me, too. By the way, according to my statistics :read:, of the three 1767 types - lettered edge, edge 1 (/////////////) and edge 6 (\\\\\\\\\\\\\\) - the rarest one is edge 6,

    Sigi

    .

Interesting info. Can't say i pay much attention to the inclination of the rope edge. My new coin has 1, I will check the old one (odds are it is also 1).

  3. Yes, a denomination error set from this period would be interesting, if not unique. I suspect I'll be able to

find a nice 2 kopek of this type of error eventually. I was offered one recently, but it was ugly and I was suspicious

that it was false. I also have a polushka of this period about 60% off center, but not double struck.

Here is one more recent buy, same period but different type, however it hasn't arrived yet.

    Cheers,

    -mike

You have a good taste sir! :art:

  4. I'll chime in. Here are a few acquisitions from the last months.

    Not a terrible 5 kopecks from 1916:

Improved the Siberian 10 kopeck 1767 KM kopecks. The new one is on top. Still looking for the 1767 no MM.

BTW, does anyone want the old one. ;)

I also picked up these 2 late Nicholas 1st coins:

  5. I'm not sure the same idea of Novodels can always be applied to medals. There are medals that were struck significantly after the original with new dies. These can be clearly considered Novodels. Like this one, from the 1892 restrike of the Northern war series:

    983046.jpg

Or this copy of the silver award medal struck for collectors:

However, regular table medals were always restruck with original dies by the mint at a later date, either for a significant related occasion (e.g. an anniversary of the event), or based on the private request from collectors. So unlike a coin that is clearly dated, and meant to have been struck on that date, medals were not. As such I would refrain from drawing the same distinction between the original and a Novodel as I would with coins.

  6. One of the collectors from Czech Republic showed me this medal. Can anyone look this tin medal up in the Diakov medal catalog Part 2 and tell me more about it? Does he list them in tin? Any other info would be appreciated also... Thank you!

Don't have the book, but most medals were minted in White Metal, Bronze and Silver. Diakov number should be 150.1.

  7. I don't care personally, but from what I see it is (to some degree) a result of a somewhat annoying and unprofessional nature of their promotion...

I may be wrong, but I believe that Candidate, who just posted above, is associated with Sincona. ;)

Whoever that Sincona rep in charge of dealing with Russian forums might be, I quite enjoyed this level of engagement with the collectors, and I hope that other auctions would provide this much online access to their upcoming auctions in the future. I know that there are at least 2 MiM experts who curate almost daily on Russian coin forums. They are knowledgeable and experienced people, and I often read their posts, but I do wish that on occasion they would show more restraint in their forum posts. (And I believe that Basilio/Kapustin has become much more measured and less vitriolic in the last few years). I would applaud MiM if they shared their upcoming auction's coin pics on forums, like Sincona does, as well as posted articles about more interesting coins from their auctions.

  8. I think Sincona Collection is the perfect name for the Russian coins Sincona is selling for the past 3 years and will be selling again this coming fall. The reason is simple - they belong to Sincona, thus the name.

Was just reading this ugly business between Basok and Arefieff on CM. Arefieff indicates that Soderman sold his silver along with gold in the 60's. Is that the case? I recall Gold/Platinum auction attributed to Sodermann, don't recall silver. Is that why the Sincona collection is anonymous?

  9. It was something like this:

    post-34926-0-29381100-1413273264_thumb.jpost-34926-0-07867200-1413273274_thumb.j

    Now it looks like this:

    post-27191-0-97581200-1428291281_thumb.jpost-27191-0-47461800-1428291292_thumb.j

It looks like a multiple overstrike (it was through a few overstrikes / re-coinings)...

Great coin, I doubt I've ever seen this much undercoin before. Verdi-Care again?

  10. Congratulations! Looks like you are getting into medals more and more or am I wrong? Seems OmniCoin has limitation on the images size? Too small. :(

I agree, I should do like Sigi, and create my own inventory site. I do like medals/exonumia, but my appetites are still omnivorous and opportunistic. :)
