  1. To that fact, I just noticed something on M-DV. In October of 2012 (1st sale of the Sincona collection?) this coin went for $535. It looks like this coin was resold just a month later in (Nonmember 18th 2012, Imperial Auction House Auction 23 Lot 210), only this time it was graded as Proof not just UNC, and was sold for $946
  2. Interesting info. Can't say i pay much attention to the inclination of the rope edge. My new coin has 1, I will check the old one (odds are it is also 1).
  3. You have a good taste sir!
  4. Very impressive mint errors!
  5. Hard coin! I only have an ugly 1766.
  6. I'll chime in. Here are a few acquisitions from the last months. Not a terrible 5 kopecks from 1916: Improved the Siberian 10 kopeck 1767 KM kopecks. The new one is on top. Still looking for the 1767 no MM. BTW, does anyone want the old one. I also picked up these 2 late Nicholas 1st coins:
  7. I'm not sure the same idea of Novodels can always be applied to medals. There are medals that were struck significantly after the original with new dies. These can be clearly considered Novodels. Like this one, from the 1892 restrike of the Northern war series: Or this copy of the silver award medal struck for collectors: However, regular table medals were always restruck with original dies by the mint at a later date, either for a significant related occasion (e.g. an anniversary of the event), or based on the private request from collectors. So unlike a coin that is clearly dated, and meant to have been struck on that date, medals were not. As such I would refrain from drawing the same distinction between the original and a Novodel as I would with coins.
  8. Don't have the book, but most medals were minted in White Metal, Bronze and Silver. Diakov number should be 150.1.
  9. Look at the beginning of the book, this should be all explained. Number 6 is the type of edge, there is a list. Circle vs. rhombus is circulation coin vs. Novodel restrike.
  10. It is only in Russian. But it is tables/lists of coins. I'm not sure what you are looking for, but for general collecting, if you already own Bitkin you probably do not need this one.
  11. I think you are looking for this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251891741673
  12. Hello Fred, You can probably find an electronic version online, or a reprint on eBay. Respectfully, Alex
  13. That's very interesting. Did Brekke explain why he changed his mind? And did he fly in from Mexico just for this coin?
  14. I said I could be wrong. I just thought you posted something on their behalf at some point.
  15. I may be wrong, but I believe that Candidate, who just posted above, is associated with Sincona. Whoever that Sincona rep in charge of dealing with Russian forums might be, I quite enjoyed this level of engagement with the collectors, and I hope that other auctions would provide this much online access to their upcoming auctions in the future. I know that there are at least 2 MiM experts who curate almost daily on Russian coin forums. They are knowledgeable and experienced people, and I often read their posts, but I do wish that on occasion they would show more restraint in their forum posts. (And I believe that Basilio/Kapustin has become much more measured and less vitriolic in the last few years). I would applaud MiM if they shared their upcoming auction's coin pics on forums, like Sincona does, as well as posted articles about more interesting coins from their auctions.
  16. I am very puzzled by all the friction around the Sincona sales. I can understand that certain auction house might resent the attention that these are drawing, but odds are at some point in future, they will be reselling some of these coins. Sounds like a Win-Win for all.
  17. Was just reading this ugly business between Basok and Arefieff on CM. Arefieff indicates that Soderman sold his silver along with gold in the 60's. Is that the case? I recall Gold/Platinum auction attributed to Sodermann, don't recall silver. Is that why the Sincona collection is anonymous?
  18. Great coin, I doubt I've ever seen this much undercoin before. Verdi-Care again?
  19. I agree, I should do like Sigi, and create my own inventory site. I do like medals/exonumia, but my appetites are still omnivorous and opportunistic.
  20. I wonder who got this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/381198208323
  21. Seems like BS - 1 bidder, private listing, sold at initial price.
