  1. A very good post! I think even I have finally got a clue about the 5 kopecks. Sigi, congrats on the CM upgrade. A rarer variant, and your Dassier looks plugged. Now just need to find an EM "Dassier" type, as Eugene suggested.
  2. Not sure how to tell the CM from EM, as it appears that there were Dassier looking eagles earlier on at EM. There was a hint at that thread that the digits of the year might be the tell. As I understand, all of these are EM coins:
  3. That makes sense. Well done! Does put the orb/banner theory to question though.
  4. Thanks for that! Was able to look up several of these variations. 243.1 in bronze was sold at MiM's auction 43, lot 206. A very striking medal. Not sure I spotted any difference between 243.9 and 243.10.
  5. Well I got one, not sure if it's the same as was at the eBay auction here. Mine was from a US seller. The medal is silver, and rings well. I took it to the Denver coin show, and had a few people look at it. They did not find it repulsive. One dealer had a portable spectrometer, and indicted that this is silver with alloys that he has seen in old silver. The edge is very sharp, ring struck. The weight is about 23 grams, which makes it Diakov 243.9. There is also Diakov 243.7 which weighs in at about 30+ grams, and Diakov 243.3 weighing in at about 50 gr. I do not have the Diakov catalogs, but curious to find out what's listed under the other numbers.
  6. It does. And that's why I'm puzzled by why this coin is attributed to Ekaterinburg. I will admit that I have not yet read the coins.su topic on the 5 kopeks. Perhaps it is explained there.
  7. Have a few coins that skipped edging altogether. I think all are coppers from Elizabeth's rule.
  8. Actually, I think you nailed it! I think RB is from 10% to 90% red.
  9. I went to a Denver coin show last weekend. That was depressing. It really feels like most Russian material has drained out of the market. Then again, I am told that the coastal shows have more international numismatic representation. Denver is mostly US coins/tokens. P.S. I did manage to get a Georgian 2 abazi coin.
  10. I don't know anything about bills, but unless this one has a rare signature or something like that they are pretty common. The coin (denga - I/2 kopeck) is also very common from the looks of the reverse.
  11. I've sent a few coins to NGC. Just wanted to learn the process, and wanted to understand their grading. Got a couple of pleasant surprises. This coin got MS-63RB, according to NGC census it is the best of 5 that they graded. This coin came back with the highest grade of my batch - MS 64RB. Out of 31 NGC graded business strikes it tied with one other coin that got MS 64BN.
  12. They aren't rare. Rare in good condition or varieties, you know large date or later design of crowns. Something like this:
  13. The patina is not very deep, so I think it was cleaned/dipped some years ago. But a pleasant coin for the type.
  14. Looks OK to me. Cleaned and maybe lacquered.
  15. I believe your 1758 is from Sestroretsk. I recently added a moscow mint one to mt set:
  16. This is one impressive auction! http://rarecoins.ru/vse-lotyi-52222.html
