Dan769
Nice looking Barber, I say it just qualifies for VF
Guest Stujoe
I'd say VF!
Burks
VF for sure. It was the first grade that went through my mind.
Dos Mundos
Thanks guys, some people say that its a slider. A touch better than F-12 but not quite a VF-20. I would also go for VF
knowtracks
I would also guess VF-20.
jtryka
The liberty has some weak spots, so I would say F-15.
gpnyc
My first thought was F-12 but then I noticed all the letters in LIBERTY were visible. I'll go with F-18.

Dan769
In looking at the coin again it Probably is a Fine+. But what concerns me is the mintmark placement. I don't own this date/mm but all my other mintmark Barber quarters have the mintmark to the northeast of the last R in quarter , or directly in the center of the opening between that R and D in Dollar. Maybe it's a characteristic of that date/mm I don't know. Being that's a semi key date and kinda pricey, makes sure it's not a counterfeit. Send it to a grading service. Anybody know more on this? Brett
I noticed the mintmark placement also, but I looked at a few certified 1897-S coins and it is in the same location
Brett
Forgot to tell you what I thought. I went with F-15+. Couldn't quite make it to VF-
Dan769
I noticed the mintmark placement also, but I looked at a few certified 1897-S coins and it is in the same location Thanks Brett, I thought I was the only one who noticed! The die puncher must had a few cocktails for lunch, that's nowhere near center
syzygy
A nice F15, just shy of a VF20
stu62
I'd say VF-20.This coin is a great find.David lawerence in his Barber quarters book felt that this date is the goods.Plus it doesn't look cleaned.Awesome!
