Mark Stilson
Spotted this in another forum. Stack's has a gold 1905 1c Indian cent up for auction struck on what appears to be a Quarter Eagle planchet. I do like the previous price list below. For some reason I think it will go for a little more then those.

Mark Stilson
I kind of wonder what the story is about this one. I mean where has it been the last 100+ years?
bill
There are a few of these around in collections. Very expensive.
hiho
Odd they don't have a photo of the coin. I even signed in.
Mark Stilson
Odd they don't have a photo of the coin. I even signed in. You would think something as rare a a ms64 gold 1c would warrant a picture. I wonder if they don't have it in hand yet?
bill
I think you are viewing a catalog that is still inpreparation. Try this September Stacks auction.
Mark Stilson
I think you are viewing a catalog that is still inpreparation. Try this September Stacks auction. Nope, different coins. But if a 1906 in au58 sold for $276,000 how much will the 1905 in ms 64 run?

ccg
Too bad the planchet wasn't a little larger...
Art
I really doubt this was an accident. Someone at the Mint "creating a rarity" would be my guess.
