The old commemoratives are out of my price range, except the 1492 Columbian half.  I have a special place in my heart for the Statue of Liberty proof  dollar.  I had one given to me when I was 13 by my aunt.  It was the first silver dollar and the first proof I had ever seen.  :ninja:

I have a few of the modern US ones, Yellowstone, Capital visitors center, but otherwise no. I love some of the older ones, but outta my price range right now.

If the do one with trains on it, i'll probably buy it. :ninja:

Nice T'bunny! I was following eBay for that one last year, but only the Iceland version was up for offer. I still need to get that one. Would you mind (here or PM) letting me know what you paid for it? I would like to have an idea myself what to expect.

I think the modern commemoratives are an interesting group of coins to collect and study. They are not limited, for the most part, to the design restrictions that are placed on coinage designed for every day circulation. In many ways it is like collecting type coins rather than a run of dates of a particular series where the only thing different from coin to coin is typically the date. They are much less expensive than the traditional commemorative which would be my first choice if I had the discretionary money to do so.

One thing I've noticed is that many of the modern coins have appreciated rather nicely the last few years which is a nice plus.
