TomD
A few years back at a coin show, a booth had these from the 2005 RCM. I bought a few. The coins called "Maple Leaves of Hope" are laser cut and are very hard to photo to advantage. They got piled in with the rest of my collection but I haven't heard anything about them since. Anyone ever hear of them?
KoRnholio
I have the 2003 version, which came in a large red case. They are nice looking hologram coins. And unlike most modern Canadian special issue coins like this, these ones might actually be appreciating in value somewhat. My 2005 coin book shows $100 for the 2001 ($60 original issue price), $60 for 2003 ($40 original issue price) and $40 for the 2005 ($40 issue price). Though I am unsure what they list at now. thedeadpoint
What's with the chinese script?
KoRnholio
What's with the chinese script? My book says they are the chinese characters meaning "Maple of Good Fortune" for the 2001/2003 coins, and "Maple of Hope" for the 2005 coin. ccg
The series (among others) is made for the Chinese market, and to my understanding the original piece in the series was heavily promoted in Chinese language media in the larger Canadian cities (and possibly abroad as well).
