I have developed an interest in the German East Africa coins and would welcome any advice or background information on types and issues

 

Nice grade 1890 1 Pesa - still has plenty of red

Well used 1901 Quarter Rupie - fairly impressive headwear on the Kaiser - Silver

1908J 5 Heller - German East Africa _ bronze

J is Hamburg Mint

1914J 5 Heller - German East Africa - this is cupro nickel whereas the 1908 5 Heller is Bronze

J is Hamburg Mint

1916T 20 Heller - German East Africa - Emergency issue - appears to be Brass

T is the Tabora railworks

I think it is Obv A and Rev A

I have posted this somewhere else on the forum before i found this topic which is where i should have posted it.

 

Can someone tell me more about this 1910 1 rupie from German East Africa.

 

Why does it have a thick edge around it's perimeter as all the pictures of these coins that i have found on the net don't have it - could it be an error coin

 

i'm a newbie to coin collecting and was kind of forced into it when i inherited stuff from my grandfather

 

hope the pics show what i'm asking - any help would be appreciated.

The photos (in particular the first one) are too small to be 100 % sure, but I'd say that your coin was damaged by somebody flattening its rim. It is not an error coin, now it is just a piece of silver worth about 12.47 dollars at today's silver price.
