By the way, Igor, weren't it you who mailed me a few years ago about removing verdigris in hot olive oil? How hot and how long would it need to be? I bid on about 40 coins...I won only 2! The 1796 Cipher 10K went for $40,000 (including fees). A 1764 EM Denga (very rare) went for $59,000 (with fees). Those weren't the 2 I won, before you ask I did get the 1789KM Polushka, long missing from my collection. Anybody else land anything? "How 4 coins With the same description could be rated R2 and R3" - Pattern made in copper (9.50g) with smooth edge by the Mint in Brussel - As I understand "rare" meens that you cannot see these coin in such a quantity. Bid polushka 1858 - extrenmely rare and never described at all - and also didnt win... Denga 1765 at my mind - is a fake... struked on denga dated 1768 - not on the @drum@ kopek... Strong collection.. And madness in prices... 10 kopekc"s 1796 - 8 rouble in Il'in's catalog - cost 40 th. 1 rouble 1762 with Peter III - without any price - more than 100 000 - where is a true ? I bid $30,000 for 1811 denga, and I thought that was a strong bid. Guess not. In most instances I was grossly overbid, which shows that I am way behind the "market" nowdays. However, I am only interested in rare stuff (3 rbl and higher), and there are people with a lot more money who want the same. So, the result -- I won 2 novodels of 1830 spb and a Girei polushka. Do not know what is wrong with that polushka, but I got it for next to nothing... With the same rarity as Ischal (r3), it went for $17,000 less than the Ischal sold at the same sale. I guess my collection will have to sit a few of these out until I start making more money. Which one do you think is a fake? I bought only 1 kop and 5 kop. These are duplicates, so I would be able to compare them against the coins in my collection. As to akche, I am not a great specialis on Crimean coins. When it arives I will check it against the plates in both volumes of Retowski book (i am lucky to have an original ) and weigh it. I will report the results here as soon as I get them. I guess if it is not polushka, I should be able to return it. But, for $300 I might as well keep it.
