No more Godless dollars?

The House of Representatives has passed legislation to move "In God We Trust" from the edge of the Presidential dollar to the obverse or reverse. The Senate has not yet acted.

maybe they can tack this on to the American Indian Sackie reverse bill. It also means they would have to redesign the edge lettering, spread it out?

Basically they want to move the legends that are currently on the edges of the coins, well, most of the coins anyway, to the obverse or reverse instead because the legends were left off some of the edges of the coins. The result was torment from the religious "right" about the lack of "In God We Trust" etc.

Frankly IMHO they could just stop making this trash in the first place. The coins are all ugly in my opin.

Lots of people complained that they couldn't read it on the edge and it was the first step in the total removal of "God" from our coinage.

Which is a ludicrous notion, but considering the people doing the griping, not a surprise.

Priorities, people! There are those who really need to sort those out... but lets not get into a political debate.

Whaddaya mean? You mean soldiers dying everyday in Iraq, billions of dollars of taxpayers money going into that sinkhole, crime, global warming, disease, hunger? Those are all more important? How can that possibly be? :ninja:

In the larger scheme of things the motto is not that important but looking at it from a coins only standpoint Congress is the entity that makes these rules. Perhaps they should pass this "burden" on to some other entity so they can spend their time on more important items.

HR 2510 is not the bill the house passed. They added an amendment to HR2829 appropriations bill and the wording could derail the President dollar program. Its up to the Senate to clarify the wording.

HR2829

SEC. 907. None of the funds made available in this Act may be used to implement section 5112(n)(2)© of title 31, United States Code.

5112 of title 31

‘‘© EDGE-INCUSED INSCRIPTIONS.—

‘‘(i) IN GENERAL.—The inscription of the year of

minting or issuance of the coin and the inscriptions

‘E Pluribus Unum’ and ‘In God We Trust’ shall be

edge-incused into the coin.
