New dollar coin Mintage opinions?

I was considering the effect of the 1/3 Sackie production mandate in the President dollar coin law and the glut of Sackies that will result when(if?) the president coins become popular.

The question is....How many president dollar coins will be minted? Im only considering the coins from Philly and Denver and I understand that there will be a range just like the State quarters (high 943 Million, low 213 Million). I was just wondering what people thought the figures might be for the 8 coins dated 2007.

If Ecuador's economy keeps bumping along they will need at least another 150-200 million sacs partially for attrition (some of the sacs there are in horrid shape) and partly due to economic growth. Panama and El Salvador could see some sac growth also but that is yet to be determined. That won't eat up all of them but could take care of about two years worth of overage and turn the mint another tidy profit.

Well in Ecuador, at least when I was staying there the sac was the main form of legal tender for US currency. You say dollar bills also but the coins were more common. I think when Ecuador made the switch to the US Dollar Uncle Sam decided to ship out about 500 million sacs and the rest is history. Some of them are very grimey and there has been a small counterfeit problem (mainly from Colombia and narco-trafficos) but it works well. All the slot machines and casinos in Ecuador were Sacs only.

I heard a rumour the Turks and Caicos might try and go sac coin too but nothing serious yet.

I have heard rumblings... from other dealers who are much larger then I that once the state quarter program is over... in their opinion.. that the market as a whole is going to suffer... The program has helped the coin market... by getting people interested in the hobby who were not before. I just hope that these same people don't expect to make any money at all on the quarters... (I have talked to people who swear by the state quarter program and are shocked when I tell them I don't buy or sell them). I can say this... The roll bids for these coins are heavily inflated by dealers... once the program is over the dealers are going to stop promoting these coins...

basically what I am trying to say is once people watch the market for the state quarters collapse.. they may be weary to start collecting a new series heavily. I would suspect that it'll start quickly...and with a lot of coins... but taper off...

I would guess about 500-600 million for the first few series, maybe more . After that it will depend on sales.

But I agree there will be a big amount of Sacs just laying around the mint

WOW! 500 million X 8 is 4 Billion coins. That would mean 1.3 Billion Sacs, In just the first year!

I'm going to say there will be around 150-175 million of the Washington coins alone. Very popular president that everyone knows. They'll need to produce a lot more of those than the other coins.

Not too excited about this really (frankly I could care less). But I'll collect them anyways...
