  1. Welcome It is Queen Victoria, need size to know if they are pennies, halfpennies(unless you can read it on the reverse) etc, CHECK THIS LINK for lots of examples
  2. Great Toronto notes Saor Alba & a fascinating post
  3. I have added the details to the original post Art, though apart from one being unlisted not much to add.
  4. These type of small medal/medalet were often sold both with or without a hole. The holed ones were sometimes supplied with a ribbon that was threaded through the hole so it could be worn. As a general rule(in this era) if the hole is very neat it means that the medal was supplied holed, if the hole is crudely done it was done after market with a nail punched through so the owner could hang it from a ribbon or chain etc to wear. Here is an unholed example of BHM 1853 the third medal down posted above AE. Silvered R. 29mm. The medals are the same size, 29mm, the images posted are not. Here are two more holed medals from a previous post BHM# #1862 RRR. Brass 24mm. Unlisted, almost as struck. Brass 24mm. The last one I promise Queen Victoria Coronation Medal 1838. Unlisted in this size or metal. Same design as BHM#1861 RR. but that is brass 24mm. This is WM. 33mm so extremely rare.
  5. It has been a while since I posted any Vics, so here are 2 that have lying around for quite sometime. Nothing special but they are nice clean strikes, still in good condition. BHM 1828 Br 25mm R. The description in Brown states 'seated right' everything else matches so I believe it is just a mistake as clearly she is seated left. If not this is an unlisted reverse. The clipped planchet is pre-strike not post-strike damage. EDIT. Because I have since seen an example of BHM#1828 I now know that this is an unlisted reverse. BHM 1858 Br 24mm C. EDIT: Here are 2 more I just discovered that had gone missing. BHM# 1853 R. AE. R. AE. silvered R. 29mm. Unlisted in Br. Unlisted in BHM.
  6. If I had to chose just one I would go for the copper as the body of the archer is just sublimely engraved. Mind I would not say no to the argent
  7. Well I am happy to have voted for your rouble I think the info you supplied might have influenced me somewhat in my very tough decision. Any one would be a worthy winner, but alas only one can win.
  8. I have voted for the platinum 3 rubles but now I realize that this is the base metals group, surely platinum is both a pure & precious metal After casting my votes in the other groups I now realize that there is no other group better suited in which to place platinum, so I am happy to let my vote stand, phew
  9. Great coins & the gilded piece is pretty special
  10. You'll probably need deep pockets to match the depth too.
  11. (15)37 Matthaus von Lang Wellenburg (1519-1540). Statesman and Archbishop of Salzburg - 2 Pfennig 1537, uniface Zweier. silver 15mm These had the year fully dated until 1536 when they dropped the 15, so the last ones minted were dated just 36, 37, 38, 39, 40.
  12. Looks like the lion is handy with his fists, but I don't think the Marquess of Queensberry would have approved of sticking your tongue out at your opponent.
  13. Samuel Allen Daniell of 52 St. Paul's Sqr. Birmingham England where he was active between 1861/2-1873, later he relocated to the Lion Works, Edward Street, he was mainly a token maker(for pubs, guilds etc) his trades are listed as die-sinker, seal engraver, press and tool maker. So as you can see the maker of your relatives token was only active between 1861/1862-1873 at that address on the token, so we can date the manufacture of the token to that period, with the latest date being 1873, though it might have still been in use much later Here is one of his tokens produced after he moved premises in 1873 with his new address on Edward St.
  14. Great coins as always Clive & your photos are amazing
