  1. A neat combo of old and new, a 1926 Lincoln, in fine, and a 2007 Canadian, first find in over a month. At least the Abe can be retired to my orphanage after a long 83 year span of circulation.
  2. Mmmm, that is one that really really needs to be seen in high resolution to truly appreciate it, I have always liked the HK and Macau notes for their vibrant reds contrasting against lighter colours.
  3. The then Dominion of Canada issued the $1 denomination in many different varieties in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the previous issue to this one was issued in 1911. With the start of World War I and the entry of Canada into the conflict as part of the British Empire Canada found herself raising regiments to go and fight in the European conflict. Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Farquhar, the military secretary to the Governor General of Canada, the Duke of Connaught, asked the permission of the Duke to name a Canadian regiment in the Duke's daughter, Patricia's name. She was a very popular person in Canada, and was instrumental in the regiments founding. In 1918 Princess Patricia was name colonel in chief of the regiment, and she retained an active role in the regiment until her death at aged 88 years in 1974.
  4. That is okay, I got snoopy and went to this "Frenchbanknotes.com" site where some guy has images of it
  5. Lovin' the Congolese note, those colours are awesome. BTW need the reverse imaged of the Jugoslavian note, that is where las femmes fatales are!
  6. Not really recent purchases, I bought these late last year but never imaged them until yesterday:
  7. Got one of the 2009 Lincoln log cabin cents, my first USA cent from 2009.
  8. You really really do not want to compete with me in collecting things.
  9. I would caution you on trying to get me even more interested in shooting thalers, because I have been seriously looking for them recently and you really really do not want to compete with me
  10. I have a similar note from the 1st of July of that year, I had to look, to see if our notes were near in serial numbers, but of course with the different dates they are not. Isn't that design a wonderful anachronism to an earlier time?
  11. I wonder if the bovine on the right of the obverse of the note is a reflection of someone's opinion of Mugabe, what with the the apparent dropping of a bovine land mine and all?
  12. And as of today, probably not for long, got the call to go back
  13. 1940 Wheatie in the reject bin in Kroger this afternoon.
  14. Gees, you have been in Europe so long you are starting to spell colour like I spell it, instead of the American way of color!
  15. A truly magnificent note, only about 38 years old, but now highly collectable because of the very colourful themes of a tropical paradise: The level of detail in this design is fantastic, down to the sheen on the young lady's teeth, and on the reverse image the over usage of eyeliner!
  16. El Banco de la Republica Oriental del Uruguay contracted with Banque de France in 1930 to print a commemorative series of banknotes celebrating the centennial of Uruguay's independence from Spain. This otherwise very French looking note has Latin American themes, with the Lady Liberty's helmet, the sun emblem etc. Ordinarily until the late 1930's Giesecke & Devrient printers in Munich Germany were the printers of choice for the Uruguayans, this note below is the usual note that circulated until the 1940's:
  17. I wished I had never seen all his African notes, he unintentionally fed my passion for collecting several of them myself.
  18. Not mine but my son's find at Wally World, a 1952 cent.
  19. BTW I really need the Jugoslavijan 1000 Dinara from 1931 in crisp uncirculated for my femme fatale collection.
  20. Not in, but peering out from underneath the CoinStar was a 1981 Swiss 1/2 Franc, not a bad find, considering face value on the coin is about 40 cents and it is a dime sized coin.
  21. I did get the 1929 example of that denomination whilst I was in Ukraine.
